What is he trying to do? Repair it right for the customer or repair it so the customer doesnt find out? Hopefully he informed the customer and isnt just trying to screw them.
It doesnt look bad, try using a smooth flat body hammer and easily tapping it down. Worst case would be it will leave a mark on the paint and could be touched up and/or waxed.

my first car had a few little dents like that on the hood and i got estimates from a few places. both were alot more then what yours is for. i think either way, if they pound out the dents or buy a new hood, they have to paint the whole hood, and because the hood is so large they have to blend the fenders around it. thats probably why its expensive.

"Boss damaging customer's hood" means he fixes it, **** the nickel and dime bullshit.
Seriously, does he think it's gonna cost $300? If so, will $250 really save him the grief of fixing a customer's car and/or having that customer leave happy over a problem caused by the "boss"?
That's really ******* chump change for a "boss". A "boss" nickel and dime-ing some customer over a mistake they made is asking for trouble.
