It's finally working!
I'm an UI engineer by trade, and gear-head by night, and decided a while back that I could mix things up a bit.
I saw the "multifunction display" in the new GT-R, and thought it looked pretty cool, and that I'd like to have something like that for my T/A.
Well, after a moderate amount of hacking, this is what I've come up with. It's still a very early and rough version of it, but it actually works.

The plans forward is to add more screens to monitor different values. Add DTC diagnostics, and maybe a virtual quarter-mile.
I'll also look into adding media playback in it, so that it eventually can replace the radio.
Whaddy'a think?

I wrote it all myself. I'm a programmer by trade, so it's what I do.

There's a ton of programs out there for hooking up your PC to your car.
I use the hardware from http://www.obdpros.com/, and they include a bunch of (ugly, but working) software with their interfaces.

EDIT: P.S. This is freakin' awesome. I can't tell you how long I've wanted a car with something like this. Oh, got another idea - 0-xMPH times (unless it's not too accurate)

I added two new screens.
Screen two:
* Engine Coolant temp
* Torque converter slip
* Engine oil pressure (not working)
* Engine load (in %)
* Transmission oil temp (uncalibrated)
* Transmission oil pressure (also uncalibrated)
Screen 3:
* DTCs
* Battery voltage
Future plans:
In the immediate future I'll add graphing, so you could get a graph over your RPMs (for example) over a period of time.
I'm also thinking of how to implement an MPG meter
I could rather easily add the 0->xxxMPH functionality, and probably a virtual 1/4 mile as well with a RWHP estimation. It won't be perfect, but I think I could get it within 5% accuracy or so..
I'll probably end up integrating some form of MP3 playing as well.

Edit: It looks really good. Well done.

I'll probably end up going the CarPC route, but not in the regular sense.
I'm prototyping my own CarPC, which this will become a part of.
What's already in the plans and semi-working is iPod integration (blows any headunit ipod integration clear out of the water), as well as XM-Radio.
Once I've got that working in the lab, it'll all be put into a PC, and mounted in the car.
I'll keep you posted

i don't know if you would do that tho lol
