Default 98 z28 170k Miles $3500?

Hello. I'm a newbie and looking to buy my first American muscle car. I found a 98 z28 automatic for $3500-3800 ( I still have to talk down the price a little ) The exterior and interior is extremely clean for it's age. The motor has 170,000 miles and the transmission has a little over 20,000 with the rebuild. The seller is the 3rd owner and has been DDing it for over 20k miles. He replaced the tranny, brakes, and tires only. He has no idea what maintenance or tune up has been done to the car prior to his ownership.

The motor is a leaking oil. I have no idea from where because it's all over the bottom of the motor and transmission (From wind blowing back?). There's also a SOFT knocking noise coming from either the rear or front of the car. It happens only when I'm coasting the car. I did some research and it might possibly be the torsen diff. I thought it was the axle or wheel bearings initially, but the car drives real smooth.

If I can purchase it for $3500, I believe with what I will save, I can rebuild anything that needs be or replace any seals to stop the leak.

What do you guys think?

Long story short there will always be stuff to do on a used car. Your getting close to the either sell as a whole or part-out threshold. So your probably not going to be able to haggle down much more unless the owner does not understand what stuff could sell for.
