Default Should I Trade?

Alright guys, I have a 2012 Ford Focus Titanium that I got as a DD in May. It has all of the options and only 5k miles. My question is, a dealer by my house just got in a 2002 35th anniversy SS LE. I have always wanted one and it seems like an ok deal. It has 56k miles, 6 speed, convertible, and CME. It looks pretty clean, with a few flaws. I am trying to work it out where I would leave owing nothing on either car ( I currently owe 10.1k on the focus and it books at 27k). My question is should I keep the focus or does it seem like a good deal?

Also, a little more about me. I just joined the Air Force and will be leaving for Basic training in a few months so the car won't be driven, and when I do get to drive it later it won't be for long distances, so I won't mind DD'ing the car. The only reason I got the focus was for a long distance DD when I was communting to and from school, but since I have changed plans, I really don't need it or the payment.

If you can get out, or close to out, of debt... No brainer for me. Trade.

Yes, trade. You get rid of a boring car and gain something a lot cooler and more importantly, reduce your debt if you make a good deal. Good luck with the Airforce!

Go for it, no point in making a high dollar payment while you're at BCT and tech school, and once you get to your permanent duty station you won't have to make any long trips since everything you'll ever need(not want) is on base ..heck half of the single guys I work with don't even have a car and they do just fine.

Well, it drove great, but has some issues. The radio had been literally torn out, scratched paint, and cracks in some spots. I was still interested but he wasnt really flexible in his price (22k). I told hum if he gave me 5k and the car I would be happy, but he wouldn't meet me there. He offered 2500. I told him to let me think about it. What do y'all think?

The 2.5k offer would be put toward the 10.1k that I owe on the car, leaving me with a hair over 7.5k and a small monthly payment.

Doesn't sound good at all imo. As much as I would love a 35th, you're trading 27k for 20k, and in shitty condition (not perfect), the camaro is running closer 15k area as far as what it's worth, so you're going to lose 10k and still owe 10k more. 40k for 20k essentially.

Hell with it.. I'd trade for it anyway. 35th hell yeah!

Haha. That's kinda what I'm thinking. It's fixable, but it's a hard decision to make. It had been a while since I had driven a m6 ls1. I forgot how much fun it was. Haha

There is no way that car is worth 22k with the issues you described. Let it sit there for a while and let him drop the price and then go back and see what he says. Look on here and ebay and other sites and see what 22k for a Fbody will get you...it is way more than the car you described.

I told the guy he could keep it. I found a 1999 t/a with 29k miles for 13k that I may get. Either that or a 2000 SS with 60k for 12k. both cars are at the same dealer and afyer trading mine I would owe $6200 on the Camaro or $7200 on the t/a. Both are autos and I am kind of leaning towards the t/a. What do you think?

22K.... LOL He might as well spit in your face.

For a daily.... Why not pick up a 99-2000 with 60-90K miles on it and not owe a dime?

Well, yet another twist.... The guy called me late last night and said he would take 13.5k for the car. I'm going to test drive it again in an hour or so. I most likely am getting it bill post pictures later.

He went from 22k firm to 13.5k? Sounds like a shady dealer, maybe he found something wrong with the car and just wants to move it. I'd look else where. With a car that is worth 27k and you owing 10k, you should be able to come out with a nice F body with no debt easily. Might be better selling your car out right then buying the F body, dealers are rip offs.

That's what I'm wondering. I'll take it to my mechanic for sure. I looked at all of the paperwork and my car listed for 26k and trade in is 18k. So basically what he wants to do is give me $4500 on top of his car for mine. I'm still not 100% sure though. The first test drive was about 20 miles and it rode great, but I want to get it on a lift and really look at it.

Well, I took it to 3 mechanics and had it driven by them and it all checked out. I would up getting it for $13k.
