Default Future Re Sale Value

So I own a 2000 T/A non ws6 with the ls1 and M6. the vehicle has 30 000 miles and is completely stock other than a lid (have the original) and is in excellent condition with no issues whatsoever. Im wondering if I were to install a cat back exhaust and maybe slap on some headers, perhaps a upgraded intake manifold, and some other tasteful bolt ons if it would decrease the resale value by any means?? What should i do? Leave it alone and let it sit? or just go for it and save the OEM ****? it is very tempting to mod it... Id love to have another f body but they are getting very pricey up here in canada and i dont have the money currently to get another from usa..

Sorry but you don't buy an F-body for resell value, you could actually make more money parting it out vs. selling whole even in bone stock config. You buy it for fun and reliable drivetrain. Don't let NADA, etc fool you on resell value b/c of your low mileage, it's a 14 year old car.

Plus resell is depended upon who's buying. I would NEVER buy a modified car unless it was cheap. That's just me as I feel it's a sign of potential abuse, added to a car that's old and will have odds and ends needing to be addressed sooner or later. On the other hand I've seen people willing to pay more for modified, sometimes highly, cars because they "understand" what the mods are worth.

I guess what I'm getting at is do what you want with it, it's not worth as much as you think. Worry about resell later if you decide to move on. Sure keep your OEM parts if you want, and think you'll keep the car for 30+ years where it might matter.

Modding any car makes the car tougher to sell when it comes to that time. Modded cars appeal to a smaller segment of the buying market. 'Stock' appeals to most everyone including older guys and women as well. Bolt on mods are best as they can be removed and your stock parts put back on if you save them. Your car has 30,000 miles now and will obviously be driven more so the mileage will be adding up, reducing the value over time even more. The re-sale value will not be that much. If you plan on keeping the car for many years and drive it regularly I would say do what you want with the car.
Let's say you drive 10,000 miles per year over the next 4 years. You will have a 70,000 miles car that is now 16 years old in 2016. The car would be worth about $8,000 perhaps ( a guesstimate using today's values)) if kept decent and 'stock'. Modding it will reduce the value to a certain point depending what you do to it. If it has that 'abused' feel let's say it is worth $5,000 - $6,000 instead of $8,000. Is that $2,000 - $3,000 really worth the difference after 4 years of driving? That's up to you and each owner of these cars. The value is all downhill if you keep driving it. That's the bottom line. Also, you do NOT re-coup your mod $$, not at all anymore. Once you sink $3,000 or $5,000 into it, kiss that $$$ goodbye.
If you bought this car to put away for the next 15-20 years then that would be a different story. Of course the car will be worth more money. How much? No one knows but even then it isn't a 'special edition' of any kind and there will still be other F-bodies out there with even less miles.

If the car had 5k miles, I 'd say keep it as is and let it see summer day light like twice a year.

you are at 30k miles , its rare being that newest ls1 is 11 years old but nothing special (sorry).

The above posters are pretty much on target. I'm an example of an older buyer that was looking for a f-body a few years ago and I was willing to pay a premium for an unmolested car. Things like a lid or maybe a catback wouldn't have turned me off but anything more, including stuff like headers or underhood mods, were a cause to scratch a car off my shopping list.

Unfortunately a lot of theses cars are butchered and I didn't want to take on someone else's problem. And the older they get, the fewer pure stock cars are out there on the market. I noticed that the prices for stockers have leveled off and I think this due to dwindling supply of stock cars. Having said all that, I wouldn't buy for resale - buy because you like the car and do what you want.
