Ok, so my brother has finally decided to sell his "classics", to start putting together a down payment on a starter house. Just trying to figure out what a FAIR market value is.
Car 1- 79' Trans Am with the 403, shaker hood, t-tops, factory AC and power windows. The floor pans have some rust holes, the passenger fender shows signs of previous bondo work and there is some rust in general, nothing that is not repairable, CAR NEEDS COMPLETE RESTORATION, was running when parked but that was 3 or 4 years ago so it would need some work just to get going again.
Car 2- 74' Nova Custom, 350 motor with a newer Holley 670 CFM carb and a new 900 dollar TH350 trans installed with only about 7k miles on it, only minor surface rust in some spots (last I looked it over), known issues are needs a new alternator (put the alt on a K-5 blazer when the blazers voltage regulator went bad), radiator leaks and the lights where really dim for some reason.
wheels on the Nova go to the T/A and will be sold with the T/A and NOT the Nova, will add pics of the T/A when I get a chance to get some.

I'll answer about the 1979 T/A and then you can decide about the Nova.
Hopefully this won't be disappointing news but here are some recent auction results from Barrett Jackson for 1979 cars with the 403. If not familiar with BJ, they get top $$ for some really nice cars. The 4 that I am listing below are sweet cars, not anything like the car you are talking about. When you see these decent cars getting just $11,000 or $12,000 in some instances I doubt your brother's '79 would fetch anything even close to $5,000, probably a lot lower. Here are the examples below:
1) Lot 17, 1979 Pontiac Trans Am SOLAR GOLD METALLIC
403 cid V8, auto, WS4 suspension, power everything
Price: $12,925
2)Lot 327, 1979 Pontiac Trans Am SOLAR GOLD with tan interior
403 cid V8, auto, 59,000 original miles
Price: $11,000
3)Lot 331.1, 1979 Pontiac Trans Am BROWN
403 cid V8, 4 speed manual, 46,483 original miles, one repaint, PHS Documented
Price: $24,200
4)Lot 345.2, 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
403 cid V8, 4 speed manual, T-tops, 10,331 original miles, PHS Documented
Price: $33,000

Attached are some quick photos of the T/A I took today, Neither of us expect to get "big" money for it, he only paid like 2k for it when he bought it like 10 years ago, just want you guys opinion on what its current value is, My brother is half way to just scrapping it, but I would rather it find a new owner then get crushed.
As for the Nova, it would be nice to get the parts cost of the trans and carb back out of it, so do you think 1200-1400 is reasonable or is it to high or to low?
both cars have been sitting for a few years now.

Oh my!!
That's worse than I ever imagined. I wouldn't have bothered offering all that info if you posted those pics earlier. My fault.
$1,000 - $1,500 for the T/A on a real good day. Someone may want to tackle a new project.
$1,200 - $1,400 for the Nova seems too high but there is no harm in running an ad somehere, right? You never know if you don't try.
The T/A has more appeal and 'upside' IMO if someone was looking for that type project. Others may feel otherwise.

Keep in mind in these pictures, the cars have YEARS of caked on dirt from sitting, I'm gonna clean the NOVA up good this weekend weather permitting.

got an offer to trade the T/A for this 2004 Honda Rancher 4x4 4-wheeler, the current owner has replaced the tires since this photo was taken. What do you guys think.
edit: Updated pics of the Nova, washed it up today, the shiney spots are where the water hasn't dried at.
