Pics would help a lot and more info (a lot more!) on condition of the car.
$3K isn't much,I see rollers with no engine going for about $2K.
Is it a running driving car? Paint/body and interior condition?
History of car, has it been wrecked and fixed before and is the title clean or branded?
Tires and brakes good? etc. etc. ,all these things make a difference in value.
That said $3K for an LS1 Camaro is pretty cheap,if it's a good driver that's a bargain.

Car runs n drives. Don't know much about the history. Interior is decent cloth seats. Tires n brakes r good. Has Mickey Thompson on the back. Body in good shape n pain not bad for a 17 year old car.

Make sure he has the title free and clear branded or not and the VIN numbers match it. If not run don't walk run away fast.

Not a lot really, the LS1 cars are pretty damn good and more reliable than the LT1 cars. Bubbling paint on the composite roof panels is a common issue with no easy fix, lots about it here in this site.
10 bolt rear ends are a bit weak but with an auto not a big problem unless you build big power and have a high stall.
I read somewhere here about a few who have had water get inside the engine from the cowell and bad intake seals or something causing hydrolock and engine damage. I think that's pretty rare but something to check out on a high mileage car. Rocker arm trunion failures have happened on some I guess. Read up on this site and you'll learn a lot. Most of the failures are in cars that get abused at the track a lot,hot rodders are hard on cars no mater what make/model. The LS engines are so good they are getting put in everything under the sun these days including Ford Mustangs.
