Default 2001 som ws6

Hey guys you probably have seen a ton of threads like this 1 but I just need some advice a d input. I'm currently looking at a 2001 som ws6 6mt with a little over 84k miles on the clock and I'm wondering what is it worth? I know what to look for as in the 71U and WS6 rpo codes just need to know what is it worth in today's market and what is the main issues with these cars. Any input will be greatly appreciated

Here is a picture of the it has black racing stripes not a fan of it so I'm hoping they are just decals I can remove

That one image isn't really enough to get a solid idea of condition, some interior and engine bay pictures would help. But the BIG wheels sure are a BIG turn-off to me personally - would look much better with some 17s IMO, though this is always subjective and easily changed (unless it has a big brake upgrade, in which case larger wheels might be required.)

Some folks will assign a significant price increase for the color as it's in high demand/low supply - especially on the WS6 cars. But, in my eyes, at 84k miles it's well past top tier collector status so any premium would be somewhat tempered by such. I guess I'd value it slightly higher than other comparable WS6 cars in your region (not sure where you live, values for these cars do have somewhat of a range depending on location.)

There are lots of possible issues with any car of this age and mileage, but in particular you'll want to pay close attention to anything relating to the rear end and manual trans shifting operation. 7.5" 10-bolt rears are known for their weakness, especially with an M6 trans. Depending on how the car has been treated over the years, you may or may not find issues with the rear, clutch/hydraulics and/or transmission itself.

There is the roof bubbling issue to be concerned with as well. It's a 2001, so with the right type of exposure it's sure to have the problem eventually. Here are the details:

Window motors are another common issue at that mileage. The power headlight motors are also prone to failure, as well as the power antenna. Most other concerns will depend greatly on how it's been maintained and driven over the years.

In Texas that car would be worth 7-10k depending on the precise condition of it, including any paint, mechanical or interior problems. That's also assuming there is zero rust on the car. I know that sounds like a big range but most pictures you will ever see online aren't high enough quality to really discern the specific condition of the car.

To start, I'd value any decent condition, fully stock, 2001/2002 WS6 M6 with 84K miles around $10K. A beat up one could be as low as $7K while an immaculate 1 owner, garage-kept wonder car could be $12K if it operated flawlessly....which would be quite rare.

Being SOM, the odds are a little better the car was better cared for. Even at 84K miles I'd put a 15-20% premium on the SOM. That $10K car could then be $12K. While we could debate the SOM premium on high mileage cars, the real issue is that finding them is really tough. I'd put the value in the $10K-$14K range....with $12K being the value for something typical for its mileage...even though almost none of them ever show up for sale. You'd find it easier to find a low mileage car and pay $20K-$30K for one....than a 60K-100K mile one.

If you can buy one cheap from an owner asking no premium, and going by KBB/NADA, my hat is off to you. In that world, you might find this car available for $7K-$8K. And like RPM WS6, I'm not a fan of those wheels or hood stripes...SOM doesn't need any "help" to project itself.

With that mileage and the 'negatives' already talked about, $10k tops! I don't care what color it is. I would need to see a garage kept one or two owner example in unmolested condition to pay more. For anything else I see repair bills $$$ coming on top of the initial purchase price. I wouldn't want to be into a 16 year old F-body for over $15k with it rapidly approaching 100k miles. It's going to need things, no doubt about it. Some owners have great luck with their high mileage rides but I wouldn't gamble my money on a well used multiple owner one. Good luck with your negotiations if you go for it. Be smart and don't let your emotions cloud your judgement too much. It's tough but remember there are other rides out there if the price isn't right for you.
