Default Is this a good price for my first LS1?

Hey gang,

I'm speaking with a gentleman that I met at a local car show last night. He has his 1999 Z28 Camaro (A4, leather, TTops, power windows, doors, Monsoon, etc.) for sale. Car is in great condition, always garaged, never seen winters, and has 51K miles. Car is completely bone stock other than a drop in K&N. He always puts Shell 93 premium and uses Mobil 1 synthetic blend every 3K.

The guy is asking $10,000, but said he'd probably let it go for $9,500. Would you keep shopping (it really is a buyer's market now), or would you snap on this LS1?

My thoughts are that it's a pretty good deal, but I would most likely do basic bolt on's (headers, exhaust, intake, TB, etc.) I'm thinking that it might be cheaper to find a car for a grand or two more that already has these mods. However, part of me is saying that it might be hard to find one that is unmolested in such good shape.

Thoughts?

I think it is a decent price. Not amazing or outrageous, but decent.

I checked out Kelly Blue Book (KBB) and found that a 99 Z28 with the same mileage / options should range anywhere from $6,800 in poor shape to $8,600 in excellent shape.

How good of an indicator is KBB with regard to LS1's ? I'd think it would be pretty much dead on for a Honda Accord, but LS1's might command a little bit more of a premium over the posted resale value?

BUY IT!! Sounds nice. Probably no repairs needed if as good as you say. Tough to find really good ones for under 10k. It sounds like you have one there. Good luck!

If it was owned by an older gentleman like you said and the car is clean and STOCK it is a really good deal. Hard to find a low mile Z28 without thinking its been beat on. Also if he said he is willing to drop the price to 9500 he is also willing to drop it even more. Trust me when people say stupid **** like that it usually means they want to sell it fast. Offer him 8500 cash and see what he says.

I would try to get it for 8500 to 9 Grand.

You know, 500 Bucks is not a huge difference either. If it's very clean, go for it.

Clean Camaros are always hard to find. Most I have seen have been beat on and have had body work.

I got my 98 z28 with a a4 for 7800 Bucks about a year ago with 65k. It was all stock and was driven by a hippie dude, looks like it has about 30k.

It just depends on what you think.

I think that sounds like a good deal. Tell him you can afford $9,000 firm and see if he bites. Trust me, you'll enjoy starting off bone stock and building the car the way you want than buying one already modded. And more importantly, you'll really enjoy seeing the improvement with every mod as opposed to just having everything done already.

like I said already he already admitted he will go lower find out how low. His bottom price is probably lower than you think. i bet the guy would let it go for 8k if you play your cards right. Do not sound too interested in the car. make him think youre gonna walk so he agrees to a lower price. Dont be too pushy though.
