Default Best rim to tire width ratio for side-to-side performance

I am ready to buy a set of rims and tires for my 1968 Camaro and want to know what the best rim to tire width ratio to use. I am going to use a 245/40/17 tire up front and a 275/40/17 in the back. I need to know what
the best rim width will be for these tire widths. I am keeping side-to-side performance in mind over comfort.

thanks

17" x 8" or 8.5" front and a 17" x 9" or 9.5" rear with those tire sizes.

I know an 8 or 8.5 will fit the front and that a 9 or 9.5 will fit the back, but what is the best for these tire sizes? Is it the 8 and 9 or 8.5 and 9.5, etc?

thanks.

For handling over comfort, go wider on wheel width.

245s, 8.5"-9" rim front

275s, 9.5"-10" rim rear

The wheel sizes I quoted are based upon the tire sizes you said you wanted to run . . . . . ? . . .

So what is the best width percentage of rim to tire then? It seems like from the comments above that a wider rim is best, but to a point I would assume. I was initially thinking 8.5 in the front and 9.5 in the back, but figured there was an optimum percentage of how wide the rim would be compared to the tire.

thanks,
