Angry Lug Nuts and Wheel Studs

I don't understand why this is so damn difficult.

I have CCW wheels and the lug nuts they sent me ate up my wheel studs breaking 4 of them and ruining the rest.

I don't know if it was their fault or what, but the 1st time I put the lug nuts on it was a little difficult to get them on so I forced it a little...not good

Anyway, I want to replace all the studs and the only replacements I can find are ARP but they are 1/2" longer than the stock ones so my closed end lug nuts don't fit I don't want to put nasty open end lug nuts with my CCW wheels.

So does anyone know where I can get a shorter stud (2") or longer lug nut (1.9")?

Gorilla sells a 1.9" lug nut, but of course not in the size I need

I don't want to cut the ARPs and I don't know if I want to chance Autozone/Pep Boys quality wheel studs

They probably sent you the wrong size lugs you need 12x1.5 thread. You can go to any auto parts store and get them I think everybody carries dorman which are good studs. Ask for Dorman part number 610254 for a box of 10 or 6102541 for singles you can also use 610323 or 6103231 they are a little bit longer for custom wheels. Make sure you also get new lugs that are 12x1.5 thread. Thanks, Joe

Buy the ARP's and cut them to the length you need.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but it sounds like either you got a bad batch of lug nots or the inccorrect size . . .

I might try the Dorman studs and buy a whole new set of Gorilla's from Summit or where ever. I am just fearful that the people at Autozone are not careful with the lugs they provide.

I actually already have the ARPs, but I don't feel comfortable cutting them to length. I would probably have to buy a nice cutoff wheel as I'll go through about 50 Dremel wheels.

I'm pissed about the lugs, I don't know what happened but when you spend $4,000 for wheels and tires you expect the right stuff...oh well

I would be pissed if I spent that much money on wheels and they sent me the lugs....

BUT

you ruined all your studs by FORCING the lugs on there. Really, after the first one you should have checked the sizes and then if they were wrong, get the right ones, could have saved you from changing out 10 studs.

Once you get some new studs I'd just buy a set of gorilla locking nuts or something like that instead. They come in all kinds of finishes and I've never had any issue with them.
