Default Why do people say 295's wont fit a 9" rim?

I hear people say that a 295 tire won't fit on a 9" rim.

I recently saw a thread from someone asking if a 295 would fit on a 9.5" rim, and a mod posted one reply, said no and closed it. I disagree.

People put 275's on 8" rims all the time with no problems at all.

A 9" rim is 25.4 mm wider than an 8" rim, and by putting on a 295 tire you are only adding 20mm of tire from the 275.

For an 8" rim with 275 you have 1.35 mm of tire/ mm of rim.
For a 9" rim with 295 you have 1.29 mm of tire/ mm of rim. And 1.22 for a 9.5" rim

I know at least in a Mickey thompson you can put a 295 on a 9.5" rim

micket street radial II

3745R P295/45R17 28X11.50R17 33 R2 9.5-11.0 10 11.6 10.6 27.2 85

The mods don't want to say it is ok to put a tire on a rim that isn't recomended. That doesn't mean that it hasn't been done before.............it's like Procharger's Max blower rpm's. All the shops regularly exceed that, but it isn't to say that something will never happen

Every tire manufacturer should put out a recomended wheel width range for every tire they make. That is for proper seating, safety, and proper wear. You also have to take into consideration the sidewall size when seeing if the tire will work. A 275/35/18 and a 275/40/18 will possibly have 2 rim width ranges. The 295/35/18 would go on a 9" rim but the surface of the tire that meets the pavement would probably bow up in the middle giving more wear on the middle of the tire.

QFT... it is not that difficult to understand, folks. Check the specific tire size with the mfg you want to run and see what is recommended. Moreso, tirerack and such even does the work for you with their "specs" listing when you search a tire size.

A 295 WHAT??? on 9" wheel Since the OP descide to bombard me with PMs:

Tires in question:

MT 295/45R17 = IT DOESN'T FIT, Reqiures 9.5" width minimum.

Any Street Tire:

295/35ZR18 = Does not Fit , Requires a 10" width minimum.

295/30ZR19 = Deos not fit, Requires a 10" minimum width.

Use the Internet and research . . . READ THE MANUFACTURER"S RECOMMENDATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

End of Discussion. Keep up the bitching people and you all will get a time out.
