Default Widening a factory 17x9....will you need a mini tub

Is it a waste if time to widen it to 17 x 11? Is it a bad idea in any way.

Will they fit back on the car just fine or do I need a mini-tub or something else?

Its a 100% street car, I don't do anything crazy as far as twisties. I've had 315/35/17's on my rear factory rims for the past 7 years or so and they ride great and they wear perfectly even every time. Going on 17,000 miles out of my 3rd set of GS-D3's and they're still good for another 3-4 months.

I'm having my factory rims re-polished and the same company (www.fixrim.com) also does rim widening, so I might as well get it done while they are there.

Lets hear it.

**Except that 315's don't work on 17 x 9's and you shouldn't do it, because thats just ridiculous, don't need to hear that garbage***

Which factory 17x 9s do you have 5, or 10 spoke?
If you have the 5 spoke ZR-1 style it might cost less to just buy to new 17" x 11" wheels.
You'll also need to add in the cost of 1" hub spacers $60-$160 a pair.

I have 5 spoke WS6 aluminum rims.

If I don't use the spacers can the inner wells be hammered enough so they don't rub? A mini-tub kit is like $250 I think, would that work better then the spacers?

When they widen the wheels, they add the extension on the inside, which means the mounting surface (the part of the wheel that touches the axle face) is deeper than stock. This is why the spacers are needed. You shouldn't need to tub it, just BFH it.

So if they add that extension, do the studs need to be changed or are the stock studs long enough.

No tubs necessary if you use the right adapters. I will give you 3 free hits for this question. But the rest can be found searching for the words widen or widening (at least 15 pages of threads on this one topic)

Thanks. One more question I cannot find.

I saw in one of the links that someone successfully went with 335's on the rear with no rubbing.

How wide does the rim have to be widened for that size tire? I'm gonna need it.

I have 335-35-17's on my 11" widened WS6 rims, 1/2" spacers and 1/2" longer ARP studs, and removed the bump stops and rolled the finder lips and a BFH the inner finder in the front area,But I did all the work for the 315-35-17's ,so the 335's fit also. You will need a adjustable pan hard rod to canter the rear end, because youll need every bit of the room you can get

Perfect. Where can I buy the 1/2" spacers and 1/2" ARP studs?

Or will FixRim who's doing the work have all this stuff for me?

Thanks.
