Default Need a solid answer on my rear wheels

Ok here it goes, I'v got an 01 SS which I'm about to install a Moser 9" rear end into. The only thing is that it was a 3rd gen 9" being put into a 4th gen camaro and my factory wheels will not due to backspace issues. I have my tax return check and all the required parts to install this rear end except my wheels. I need to know what backspacing i needed to fit 15x10 wheels on it. Also what is the best tire to fit on this rim. It's got 4.11 gears, a stock M6, and will be running 26" front tires with non adjustable suspension at this time. I need help people

Off the top of my head, I'd say that with a 10" wide rim, you want around 4.5-5" of backspacing. I had a 3rd gen Firebird, and had 8" rims on it with 4" of backspacing (all 4 corners). The rear wheel had plenty of room all around, the front was the issue on those cars, as I was close to the strut with that wheel, with that backspace.

The other consideration will be the width of the tire you plan to use, and I'd definitely suggest an adjustable panhard bar to center the rear end, if you don't already have one.

Measure the length flange to flange, compare to 4th gen measurements flange to flange. Adjust backspace according to needs.

This is going to be your most accurate answer for the simple fact you may not be sure the rearend you have was set exactly to 3rd gen OEM lengths.

If you need me to setup wheels to fit your application, give me a call. We can build you our Bogart direct fit 15" drag wheels for the front and rear OEM LS1 brakes/calipers and rotors.

Answering questions further via posting is more difficult vs. making a phone call so feel free to do so. I'll be in the office on Monday.

Thanks Steve, sounds good. The car is still in storage and the rearend is in my garage. So I cant really do a measurement of the stock axle flange to flange. I ordered the rear for my last car, a 3rd gen, which should be dead on. Also I was one of those guys who ordered the dirt cheap Greg Weld front wheels so I wanted to try and get something to match up.

You're welcome.

Our products aren't going to be the least expensive, but out of just about every rear wheel setup you're going to compare them to, ours would be like saving an easy 40 lbs of converted mass.. I'd suggest something like our Floyd wheels, that's something that would match up rather well. You could go with welds prostar standby, but you're going to be leaving as mentioned about 40lbs of weight on your car. Other wheels will be worse.

Isn't the 3rd gen. rear 2" narrower per side?

I think it's something in that neighborhood.

As I mentioned, I had 8" rims on my '85 Firebird, and they had 4" of backspacing. The stock 8" salad-shooters that came with my '96 Camaro had 6", IIRC, and the wheels were "centered" in the wheel wells with both of the offsets. That would figure out to about a 2" difference.

so if i order 15x10 wheels which would normally use a 7.5" backspace on a stock rear, than i would need a 5.5" backspace correct? I am going to call Moser today to find out exactly how much shorter the 3rd is per side.

offical answer from Moser is that the rear is 3" narrower flange to flange making 1.5" shorter per side which should require a 6" BS for a 15x10 wheel

now what size tire to run on a 15x10?

No I did not try CCW I really want something to match my greg welds that will be on the front.

If you can get back to me on that BS size for your 15x8 that would be really helpful cause I found a set for sale locally
