Default Tire size quick question

Couldn't find a definitive answer so I figured I would post a new thread in hopes of a quick answer.

If I go with 285/40/17 Nitto 555's on the rear should I go with 255/40/17 or 255/45/17 on the front?

I was thinking to go with 255/40/17 on the front so that there would be no difference in looks from the side, but I'm not so sure if my thinking is correct. Anyone know?

Thanks!

Why would you not go with 275/40 front?

I had the nitto NT555 on my firehawk wheels i sold, i had 245-45-17 in front and 285-40-17 in the rear. Here is a picture of the height difference, left is 245/45/17 , right is 285/40/17. The 245-45 was a little shorter so the 255-45 may be just right so they are the same height. Heres s few pics.

I'd go with the 255 45 on the front.
the rear tires are 26" tall and if you go with the 255 40 on the front they are only 25"
it will fill in the gap better.
just my 2c

I used a tire height calculator, and a 255-45-17 would be 26.03" tall and a 285-40-17 would be 25.97" tall, which is only 1.53 mm difference, pretty dang close.

Heres the calculator i used. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

If i go 255/45/17 wouldn't it look strange from the side when compared to the rear tires? There would be "more" tire, even if it is only 5mm.

lol its only 1.5 mm so i wouldnt think it would be that noticeable. But you could always go with the 255-40 just to make sure.

1.5mm is like an 1/16 of an inch you will not see the difference.

I would notice. Guy I know did this with his mustang, I told him that his tires were off and it really bothered him since i mentioned it and he went and swapped them out.
