10.5" 10 spoke SS wheels Just got my SS 10 spoke wheels back from Weldcraft, going to do a step by step install with needed mods to a 2000SS camaro for putting on 315's. Most peope use a 11" wide wheel for 315's, I have went with 10.5" witch is the recommended mim rim for nitto NT-05's that are going on. Stay tuned!
Before everyone starts on me for spending the money to do this with a stock set of wheels, I am into the sleeper, stock looking car deal.
Get a adjustable PHB it is a must have in order to center up the rear.
OK! here we go, First on the list is to determine the correct spacer. I want to get the tire out to the edge of the wheel well so as to get the wide track look and keep me from BFHing the body to make everything fit, I have not mounted the tires yet I want to figure out the spacer first cause I am going to have the spacer welded to the inside of the wheel permantly so it will be hub-centric when I bolt everything up.
First roll the lip, rent a eastwood fender roller, I don't see how you can do this right with out rolling the edge, why take a chance cutting a 250.00 tire.
Ater trying different spacers it looks like 1/2" will be just about right, the following pictures are the out side wheel well clearance. I have removed the springs and have lifted the rear so that it is supporting the body weight sitting on the bump stops, if you hit a bad bump you will get a bit more compesssion of the bump stop so keep that in mind. Also I have a SS it came with the 1/2" spacer in between the bump stop and the frame, I have removed that spacer on my car!
First pic is of the SS wheel with the 1/2" wheel spacer on showing the clearance between the tire and lip, I can put my fat fingers in between the tire and the body
Next is a view of how far the tire sits out in relationship to wheel well
Next are some pic's of the inside of the 10.5" wheel with no tire mounted just to show clearance between suspension, body and bump stop. This is with the 1/2" wheel spacer.
This picture is of the clearance for the bump stop with the rear hanging on the shocks at the lowest point, my plan is to cut off the bump stop and re weld it inboard about a 1/2" more to gain a bit more clearance, it should still clear the spring.

It cost me 400.00 to do both wheels, alot but top quality work. after they are done they re-machine the outer lip and they run truer now than before.
With the stiffer side wall the NT-05's are not going to be any good for the drag strip, but I am into curves and a track day every now and then, I am looking at the Nitto's as a compromise between a r-compound and a street tire that won't wear out in 5K. Don't snow here in Florida so cold weather performance don't matter to me but something that will shed water is! The NT-05 has wide deep grooves to move a lot of water. Let you know how they work out.

I like the idea of having nice stock wheels widened. I'd like to find a pair of WS6 wheels and have them widened to 11's. I like the stock wheels alot, but it needs more rubber imo.

The NT-05's I have seen are not small like the 555r's. The 555r's run real small compared to other 315's not sure why that one tire is diff but they are. I will post up pic's of the 315 NT-05's next to the oem 275 Goodyears when I get them mounted. You may be able to mount 315's on a 9" rim but it would be just for looks, the tire contact pact would be poor and just a waste of rubber, you would not get the best performance out of the setup.

The people at Weldcraft can do it to chrome plated wheels also, with out messing up the finish, I have a club member that had a set of Chrome 10 spokes made wider could not even tell, trick is to find a good set of chromes someone is willing to part with

I have a extra 10 spoke that I was going to narrow to 5" and make a spare out of so it would fit over my Wilwood 6 pistons, the stock spare won't work anymore. Weldcraft said they do it alot where customers want a pair of skinnies for the front that match the rears. Would look stock from the side, but stand behind or in front of the car and you go WTF!
If I was into straight line racing that would be way cool I would have to admit.
