i cut the stock antenna with a blade to about 8" long and used a grinding wheel to round the end so i could put the ball back on the top of the antenna. Then i primed and painted the antenna and clear coated it with duplicolor. Let it dry and install.

no its not retractable, cutting the antenna doesn't mess with the reception of your radio. some people use an xm or onstar antenna or an antenna that is under the quarter panel just like shaved door handels no visible antenna.
