Maybe wheelczar works for Weld.

I've heard of some of the Weld 5x5's doing that, for heavy cars/trucks.

Weld no longer offers a 5x5 bolt circle for that very reason. The applications are more than likely to heavy for the load rating on the wheels. I feel that this defect is due to some abuse put on these wheels from past owners.

The past owner of these wheels was a friend of mine, had it on a cam only F-body. Its hard to believe that damage from a few years ago would show up now, I guess anything is possible.

Lets look at the pictures from the front side tomorrow along with the mfg date information. This may give us some insight about the problem.

I'm surprised no one has had any smartass comments referring to never using these wheels and why they went with "X" brand.

Go figure, another wheel breaking, who would have even thought this could happen.

Good to see you noticed the cracks. Good luck!

Glad you caught that before anything serious happened. That could be disasterous if they came apart while flying down the track...even with 1.7 shorts.

I can't see Weld doing anything about them as they were used when you bought them, unfortunately. Hope I'm wrong about that my friend.

Good luck.

How long have you been running without centercaps? the inside of the rim has a loose "spacer" inside the wheel that would allow water to accumulate inside them, and just from the stains where you would put the lugnuts i can tell your wheels have been rusting for a bit

my guess is they sat too long with some salt water in them.
however even with the rust your cracks look more like imperfections in the aluminum than anything. my pro star setup has over 20k miles in daily driving with no issues but i never let them look that dirty

I didn't have time to go to the shop yesterday, I will have to do it when I get back from Memphis this weekend.

I agree, I'm honestly not upset at all with the situation, just thought it was interesting, I already bought another set for the rears.

I don't expect them to, if this was a extremely expensive wheel I would raise hell. My brothers and friends have been running these wheels on there F-bodies for years, I think I have a better chance of winning lotto before having this happen to me again.

Not trying to be an ******* or rude by any means, but that is just way to far fetched to believe. It's an all aluminum wheel, yes IF the wheel was sitting in the ocean for years it could possibly make sense, but center cap or not, water would get in, and not damage the aluminum to the point of failure.

Would you trust a wheel that was welded and grinded down?

First of all I would never trust any wheel that had been repaired by welding it back together. Secondly leaving the caps off this wheel does nothing to harm the product at all. In most cases you have to run without caps to drag race. All manufactures have had product fail from one thing or another. This looks like a case of a product reaching its limits.

just curious where did this salt water come from? he doesn't live close to the beach and AFAIK never driven thru the ocean. (I know the OP)

we don't have salt on our roads obviously down here.

EVEN IF that was the case its an aluminum wheel...not steel.

SJM-If anybody would make a crack at whatever wheels he or anyone uses. The mods police would imediataly slam them for what ever they said. Kev-hope you can get fixed up with another set-or something simular-car looks killer on a 5 spoke design.

Yikes, that is scary. This same thing actually happened to my step mom's C5. It used to have chrome wagon wheels equipped, but about a year ago they all began developing cracks on the spokes. Kind of an odd thing to happen on something that doesn't really weigh a whole lot.

Actually thats pretty common. I have seen more than one set of Pro Stars do that. I have yet to see that on Draglites or Rodlites though
