Default Best Tires For Street Driven 600 rwhp

I currently have 285/35-18 toyo t1r's and they don't hook very well. I am not getting any wheel hop just loss of traction up to about 80 mph. Control arms have been upgraded but nothing else yet. I am planning to go up to 315/30-18.
I plan to track the car a few times but it will mostly be a street car. I have read that no street tire will hook all that well even at 400 rwhp. So this means a DR I assume? I would like a good all around tire that will last a while but will still hook up well when needed. I don't drive the car in the rain.
Are there any street tires that may work? Is the nitto 555r going to be my best bet if I want to get any mileage out of it? I read as well that the MT's are the best for traction but don't expect them to last very long.

Thanks.

I've got the new toyo drag radials on my car in a 275/40/17 on 17x9.5 wheels. First is useless, but they do okay with a lil tire spin in 2nd when heated up (45-50mph). They'll hook with no tire spin in 3rd not heated up (55mph +). All in all, pretty decent for my power level and very driveable/do decent in the wet, and seem to be wearing very well.

I'm looking to replace them with 295/45/17 MT radials next year. If it's not your DD and/or you're not taking it on long trips, I'd recommend the MT radial in whatever size fits the rims you have best.

I can't use my stock run craps for anything. Anything under 70 will spin them

I am surprised that the invo's hook that well. It looks like I can't get the 555r's in my size either. Any other choices.

I'd bet the invos and toyo drs are pretty comparable. Guess I'm just spoiled from dead hooking on mt radials before.

the NT-05R comes out next year and i will be trying them out as soon as they are out in a 305/35/18. I have the NT-05 in a 275/35/18 right now and they do well for the 350rwhp i put down now, but after the new year i will be pushing close to 500rwhp so i think the NT-05R will work.

It looks like the NT01 is going to be the only performance tire that is in my size. I read that it is an auto cross tire. What kind of mileage could I expect out of this tire and is it going to hook up ok?

im in the same boat... the V needs the same sized tires. No good tires in a 275 or 285 18.

So will the MT ET street get 7 to 10k miles? Are there any other tires in 315/30-18 that will hook and get 10k miles or so?

drag radials are the only way your going to hook up... either you get traction but they dont last long or last long but dont get traction... there are tires that are in the middle but for the most part you have to pick your poison... if they make the invos in your size i would get those, they are all around a very very good tire, still kinda new so i have not heard too much feeback from them but from what i can tell from their ratings and word of mouth they are pretty damn decent

I really doubt an M/T gets 7-10k, but if they do, well I am buying a set in the spring!

no way in hell does a M/T get 7k

I got 9k out of a 555r. and 5k out of a BFG DR.

Granted i actually used the tire and raced on it. If you never did a burnout i would imagine these numbers would be different.

I've had great experience with the 555R's on my Corvette and just purchased the 305/35/18's for my SS. I'm making over 600 rwhp on the bottle, so I'm interested to see what type of traction I get on the streets when it's warm.

I agree with what "02CamaroSSLE" stated above -- Reduced longevity is usually the cost of enhancing the traction you'll get out of a drag radial. In my opinion, the 555R's are a good "middle of the road" drag radial that will get you decent traction on warm days and won't have you sliding all over the place in the rain.

I've got experience with 555 R1's R2's and NT05's. Nitto does a good job of classifying its tires on the website. In particular, the R1's hook best and grip decent on lateral load but provide little lateral feedback and take a moment to set on turn in.

The R2's hook a little bit less than R1's (not much less) but provide much more feedback on turns. Perhaps too much road feel for street with stiff suspension. The NT05 grip even less, but way better than the KDW's my car came with. The NT05's are decent trade off.

With NT05's I can easily break free and spin forever starting from a roll in 2nd gear. I've got to modulate gas pedal until they hook. This is with about 500 HP. I can "chirp" the R1's under same situation, but they hook much sooner. I will say the NT05's are very controllable/consistent even when spinning them making a turn with a blower. I'm guessing the trutrac is helping.

Sometimes the car would bog if launched at too low an rpm on the R1's. I've never bogged down with the NT05's.

If I didn't put 80 miles on my car everyday, or need some tread for water, I would go with NT01's in heartbeat.
