honestly people that buy nitto 555rs for mileage should just buy street tires. they hook a little bit better than a street tire and thats it. next time i will get a real radial like mt's or maybe try bfg's out.

If your car is an everyday driver, stay away from the M/T's. If you have a pair of rims you can put extra tires on, then M/T's are your best bet. The alternative is the Nitto 555's. I have these in the 315 35 17, had a set for about 2 years, however my car was under construction for a year. Just bought a fresh pair of Nitto's again and tested them. They hook well for my car. Stalled up to 3500, popped the clutch, car took off, then the turbo kicked in, OH MY GOODNESS!!! I won't change from the Nitto's.

/\ What he said.
IF you DD your car, do not get the MT's
They wear fast, and are NOT fun in any kind of moisture.
I know...I used to DD my Trans Am on the 275 40 e.t. street radials, and it seemed I only ever drove 15mph in the rain if I ever got caught in it. It felt like the wind would blow my rear end around
Given your power range, the Toyo TQ might suit you.
I had 315 35 17 Nitto 555R's on my GT, and they were fantastic. Hooked when I launched, handled alright in the rain, and lasted 15-16k before wearing out.

I have ran nitto 555r on my 99TT and on my 96z. I had new set on the 96z and they hooked very well but sold them as they were so noisy picking up every pebble on the road. Also got paranoid seeing pics of them cracking on the nitto website but never had any cracks in mine and didn't take them off the car and they sat outside on the 96z in like negative 40 temps. So maybe should have kept them. The 99TT could hook around middle of third with the nittos when it was six speed manual. Just swapped over to auto and 3400 stall but did that end of last season couldn't really test out nittos and the nittos were getting worn down on that car and had sold the nearly new ones off.
I don't want to run et street radials full time just got a set of 275/40/17 to run track and some street play. I might get another new set of nittos .I was wondering about the new toyos how are they are rain compared to et street radials and how short is their life compared to the nittos. And is the new nitto nt05R better than 555r?
