Default about to paint my 10 spokes

I searched and i really couldnt find an answer. Im looking to paint my 10 spokes gloss black...do I strip the stock paint off of them and then prime and paint? or do i just sand the surface a little to scuff it up and then prime and paint? I know nothing about painting so any insight would be great! Thanks!

All i did was scuff it up ,clean with a tack rag, prime and paint.i used 320 grit sandpaper, you may go higher than that, thats what i had lying around the house.i will post some pictures today.my wife also made some vinyl ss stickers for the center cap.

Just scuff it really good. The clear that is on the wheels is probably one of the best bases you can have.

Anyone else do this? I also am thinking about doing this to my 10 spoke SS wheels that I have or I am going to have them powder coated. Anyone have more pics? Maybe Black Z28 or SS cars?

How many coats?
Clean or sand between coats? Dry time? Spray clear after?
Thanks.

3 coats of gloss black, didnt clean between coats,no clear .
there was no need for me to sand betweeen coats it laid down pretty even.i didnt want to clear it ,i liked the way it looked, anyway clear is the first to go on wheels, didnt want the hassle of that. For what its worth the wheels need a good washing in the pictures above, they shine alot more than that.

dry time would be little different ,depending on the weather,it was pretty warm when i did it,and dry time was around 5 minutes between coats, let it dry completly over night before installing them back on the car.
