Default Drag Tire Recommendation

I am pretty sure this topic has been beaten to death. I apologize in advance. But I tried to do a search and am still unsure of what I should do. I would like to purchase some dedicated drag tires for my LT1/6 spd. Car is bolt-ons only, but have a 150 HP wet kit to install. Will probably do H/C swap while I'm there. My pretty much stock 292 HP at the tires will not hook. Best ever 60' is a 2.12 on 315 Nitto DR's. Car is now a 12 bolt with a 3.90. Looking to buy some BS Street Lites. I don't mind biased or radial. Need to know size and brand/model. I also want to make sure that there are no clearance with a T/A rear bumper. Thanks for your time.

I would go with a 28x10.5 ET Drag. You might have to trim the rear bumper a little. You might even be able to get away with a 27" tire.

^Agreed. If you need to drive to the track then you'll probably want to sacrifice a bit and get some 28x10.50-15 ET Streets.

i would say either the BFG drag radials or if your wanting a more slick type DR id say try the hoosiers or ET streets. the BFG's are an excelent tire and you would really mind drivin on them and the same goes for the hoosiers.

with a 3.90 id suggest a 27" tire kuz a 28" IMO is a bit too tall. a friend of mine had 4.10's with a 28" tall DR and he said leavin at 6800 it left hard as hell but it kinda felt like it fell on its face for a little ways and then picked itself back up so he switched to 4.30's and he said that was the difference that helped

but if its gonna be a track only tire like i said i would check into the BFG's or the Hoosiers

My car is by no means oerfect, but I really do not want to trim the bumper. I am thinking that a 27" may be better suited for me. Looks like that really limits the selection. Any advice on a 27" tire?

I had good luck with the 27/10.5 et streets biased ply they hooked hard for me when I was bolt-ons on the spray. I had 26/10.5s on the stock rims then went to the 27s on 15in welds and picked up a good bit on the 60ft.

Ehh. From personal experience, and from members I've talked to, the BFG's are decent DR's on the street, but many fail to actually get them to hook at the street (myself included).

Have you used the BFG's at the track? The BFG drag radial that is?

Default 27" Tire

I use the 27 X 11.50 X 15 Hoosier Quick Time Pros mounted on 15 X 9.75 with 7.5 backspace Bogart Welded RT's. They hook good and can stand up to some street miles. I've gone 1.57 short times on my 02 Z-28. Be careful on wet streets, they are a DOT approved slick with three little tread grooves and you can turn around in a flash. Run a Moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears. No carving or clearancing of the fender area is necessary. I've had great luck with them.

Red281Gt, that is a great looking tire. I have 555R's on the back now and will need to replace them soon. I am a little scared of getting those because they will not be very good in the rain from the looks of the tread (wife still likes to beat on the car!). I will be buying a dedicated drag tire and a pair od street DR's of some sort.
