Default 275's on 8 inch rim?

Ok, I like my stock salad shooters, and I don't feel like spending the money on another set of aftermarket wheels.
I've read the stickies, but that doesn't definitivley give me an answer.

275's are about 10 inches wide, is that safe on an 8 inch rim? Or is it just too big? If so, what is the biggest size tire that would be safe on that size rim?

Put your flame suit on. From what i've read, no it is not. Need at least a 9" rim

Will fit. I've done it. In fact theres a Mustang in my shop right now with stock 97 Cobra wheels wearing 275/40/17's. I put them on, it wasn't even hard.

Yeah, tire rack has some, but half of them are DRs. I'd go with a taller size, to make up for having 4.10's in an auto, likely a 50 or 55.

I was in the same boat. I went with some Ecsta V700's I picked up off Craigslist. 265/45 16. They look good, and fit, no problem.

ive used a 275/40/17 on my old rims on my 3rd gen 17x8 rims. No problems at all. tire flex is a slight issue though since the sidewalls bulge out a little but looks aggressive. Since you have 16x8 i would go with 275/45/16 as mentioned above. this will be close to stock tire height. remember the taller the tire the more side wall flex you will have. better for straight line "go" tracton, but crappy around the turns.

Yes you can do it but no it is not recommened by the tire guys.My son has run 275/40 17 DR's on his stock Mustang 8" wheels for years no problem.I think you might get more wear on the treads center because of how they fit the rim-maybe run a little less air in them.

I run 275 DR's on my 15x8 drag wheels in my sig. My dad also runs 275 DR's on stock 17x8 GTO wheels. I use to run 26x11.5x16's on some stock 16x8 Firebird wheels which is comparable to a 275, never had any issues. A long time ago I when I had salad shooters I was running some 255's and they looked a little better than stock.

Well I stopped by gateway after work saturday and got some 255 50's put on there. They look a bit wider, and definately hold better than the stock size. I wanted to get 275's but decided to play it safe.

You registered and used your first post to bump an 8 year old thread encouraging something that isn't very bright....smh. People also put 315s on 9.5s, so carry on....

Actually, there is nothing wrong at all with what he posted. For the record, a 275/60/15 tire on a 15x8" (standard "Corvette Rally" size) wheel fits just fine. In fact, that's still within the manufacturer's suggested width range for such a tire (7.5" minimum recommended wheel width for this size):

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bfg-61789/overview/

But that's a tire with a 60-series sidewall on a 15" wheel, which isn't really what this thread was about so the revival bump seems unwarranted. Time to put this 8+ year old thread to bed....
