Default Narrowing Front Wheels

I have eight Black ZR1s in my possession...six 17x9.5 and two 17x13. I want to add a manual steering rack to my car, but I don't want to deal with wide tires (275s) on the front on the street in that case. Is it a good or bad idea to have a shop cut up the front wheels to make them skinnier? Will the alignment be off? What's the narrowest tire I can go without sacrificing too much handling on the street? 245s? How wide does the wheel need to be for them?

people widen the rears all the time- I don't see a problem with having a set narrowed. You could take out 2" and run a 245 no problem. Just be sure to use a shop that has experience in modifying wheels.
