No way they can be 1/32, because it's technically illegal to drive on public roadways with anything with less than 2/23 tread. 6/32 sounds more correct.

looks like your right. Jegs had it listed as a 1/32 tread depth, but summit shows a 6/32........

still wondering how long they last, it would be mainly highway driving, but i log 30 miles minimum a day to and from work. then there will be some track racing as well

Well this will be my 4th year with the 555r and prolly 12k on them. Probably half the tread is left.

Here's the thread about how they looked after 30K miles

You are very lucky you weren't caught in a pop up thunderstorm running tires that look like that. Your car would be in a ditch and you would have been sick. I think alot more of my car than that. The most i ever got from a set of the 555r's is around 10k and it was time for a new set. I ran them with 28 psi and the middle would still be bald.

Line lock...

I had the 555R's before the NT05r's. My best 60' is 1.82 with the 555's but never got to go to the track with the NT05's. Gateway closed down before I could.

This is the 315/35/17

Default 575rwhp Z06 with NT05's

I just put the new NT05's on my Z06, and im putting down 575 at the tires, and let me tell you something...these mothafreakers HOOK. I thought for sure with the power my car makes it would still smoke much of first gear and hook in second, but i was wrong. Nitto really nailed it on this tire. I'd recommend them to anyone with over 500 at the wheels, and the 555R's to anyone under that, depending on how often you go to the strip.

How long are they gonna last though? Compared to the MT Radial? I have to say they do look promising for the street as I already have slicks for the track. I need a tire that will atleast last me a year which is probably 4k miles or less.

That picture above is what I was looking for, looks like the same width as the 555R. For future reference, if you post about the nittos, specify between 555 and 555R or NT05 and NT05R, they are different tires. For example DeeBee13, did you use the NT05 or NT05R for the 575rwhp Z06?

Default Just my .02$

Nitto is nice for the street and getting long life but they will never compare to Hoosier d/r at the track. yes they last 1/4 the time Nitto's do. If your looking for a good tire to keep on your car all the time and never take them off, 555rs last longer then nt05s but less grip, if you plan on getting a set of extra wheels just for Friday night and the track, get the Hoosiers. You will be very happy. but do not use them in rain. there is absolutely no rain deflect in the tread. track only or sunny days its not gonna rain.

Yeah some of my buddies ran nt05's and never cut any better 60fts than with 555r's and the nt05's did not last as long. My car cuts 1.6 60fts on the 555r and 1.7 on bald ones with 20k miles lol. The 555r's just work for me so ill stick with them.

These nt05rs are terrible in the rain. No more than 40-45mph. I am the last one to complain about something like this, but these tires are scary in the rain.

I've ran every drag radial aside from m&h's and these new nittos are the absolute worst. They do hook better than my old 555r's though and are about 1/2" wider than the 275/40/17 555r in the same size.

I daily drive my nt05rs and they seem fine in the rain, gotta be careful that you ease into the throttle.

You have to be careful easing into it already doing 40+ mph, these tires are dangerous in the rain, but it's all relative. I have trouble wrapping my head around someone thinking they are fine in the rain though... unless youre comparing them straight to drag slicks.

Good thread..

heres my long detailed review of the 555R's vs NT05R's on my TA.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...al-review.html

In short, 555R's would last longer but dont hook anywhere near as well at the nt05r's. 555r's do feel better in the rain and in handling/turns.
555r's do run smaller in width than the nt05r's and the pics above show that clearly.

My best average with 555R's was low 1.82-1.83 60 foots. Had to roll into throttle off line, wouldnt take a full stalled launch. NT05R's would take full launch and went 1.66-1.67 so far. Superior tire all the way.

My NT05r's have well over 10K miles now... I'm not exactly sure how much...its gotta be near 12K if not more now and still going strong. Tread is low and its time to replace but I'm happy with it so far. Still got some time left.
