Default Need help with tiresa

I will be moving back to Fl where it rains quite a bit and I am trying to figure out what tire to use on my Firehawk. The car makes 700+ RWHP so I need something sticky but with wet weather capabilities. I did a search and could not get any good info. Not worried about cost or tread life.

That is going to be really difficult. Any tire halfway decent in the rain on an average vehicle, will not hold 700 hp in the dry. And 700 hp in the wet is going to be scary on any tire. May want to invest in a second car.

The best route you could go, is the more street oriented drag radials. You will have traction problems with them, but they will be better than street tires in the dry.

I am a big supporter of the Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials. They do very well in the rain for a drag radial. They last about 8-10k, and do well for me at a little over 400rwhp in the dry. As I said, 700rwhp will be beyond the traction capabilities of these tires, but it should be quite a bit better than regular street tires.

Something that does well in the rain, and hooks hard on dry pavement at HP levels beyond 500, is not really possible, so you will have to give a little...

I wasn't considering drag radials but I will take a look at the Toyo. I was looking at possibly their Proxes T1R. but will look at both.

I think you are going to be severely limited with dry traction in a 700rwhp car if you go with street tires. I only make a little over 400 and have problems with street tires.

What size wheels are on the car? I'd try and find a Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial Series II that fits your wheels. They have more of a true tread pattern than the Series I's, making them a little more friendly if you get caught in the rain. After trying the Nitto 555R, Toyo Proxes TQ, Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial, and the Hoosier Drag Radial; the last two will hook the best, with the hoosiers being more like a slick - they have virtually no tread to them and the sidewalls are thinner making them not feel as stable IMO when compared to the others.

I suggested Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 in another thread. Anybody have experience with those? I figure if it's good enough for the 2011 GT500 and the 2011 GrandSport (won't fit on a Ford GT, but if it did they would probably be trying them) it might be good enough for Fig...

That looks like they melded a F1 Supercar and a F1 GS D3.
Kinda strange looking.

The new Goodyear doesn't come in typically 4th gen sizes yet. The poster may have wheels it will work on, but it is a brand new tire that debuted on the 2011 GT500. Not a lot of sizes running around yet.

Yep, it's an F1 Supercar redesigned with the rain channeling of a GS D3.

Ugh, you're right... He needs a 285/35/18 or close to that. Hopefully they'll have more sizes in the next few months...

I've driven through heavy rain with Nitto 555Rs at highway speeds and they handled very well.

I have too and at 55 MPH found myself in a ditch in Chambesville TX. I assure you that most people hear would shy away from drags in heavy rain.

I have GS D3 on my Formula. I wonder how these new tires compare.

I couldn't find the Goodyear supercar tires so I pulled the trigger on a set of the new Toyo Proxes 1's for the back. The reviews on them were great and they replaced the TiR's which I was thinking about until I read the reviews. Still trying to decide what would compliment the front. Might go with the same tire if I like them. I don't race much anymore but do drive on highways at higher speeds with the hawk so want something really stable that can roll on rain without my ******* puckering up every five minutes.
