How long have you owned your car 1313? I have known for years that the wheels were painted. It's nice that you did the research though

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. I have a Car & Driver mag from '99 where they road tested one, and IIRC they mentioned the cleared wheels in the article.

I have owned the car for many years, for some reason many people thought that they were anodized. I got a call back from Pontiac today and they could not find a paint code, the best they could do was what I already knew, medium blue tint. So I have 2 factory wheels that I'm going to have redone, he is actually taking 3 of my wheels to match the medium blue color. I will take befor and after after pics to show how they turned out.

So tried the other number and they told me there was "no real code used" so 2 of my wheels have been turned in to be redone. I will post before and after pics when I get them back. They took 3 wheels to use one as a color base so he knows what shade to go to. All for 150ish a wheel.

They have Translucent powder coat.

The owner said he had just done his kitchen faucet in a translucent red. I know thats chrome underneath and the effect may be a little different versus polished, but it may be something to research.

You can do full polished then anodized blue
that would give you the right factory look but it's
very costly to go this route.

Not true. Powder coating would give the original type gloss also.

powder has that baked on enamel finish look to it.

and the best way to describe the factory finish is if you were like looking at a Xmas tree bulb.

you could never get that factory look with powder
not even with a two stage could you replicate that finish it's just too smooth and tranparent looking.

I believe you could replicate it. Reflective silver base and a lighter blue transparent.

Polish then Transluscent powdercoat would be the most durable, reasonable way to replicate the factory finish (and improve it obviously). Anodizing is nice, but it DOES fade with UV exposure. Depending on the quality of the anodizing work, it may last longer, but it will eventually fade.

Ok so yesterday evening i got one of the wheels back. The color is pretty close to factory, here is one of the wheels i got back they had to keep the other 3, 2 are being redone today and tomorrow and the 3rd is for a sample to use. The other pic is what the old ones looked like on one side of the car that had been hit by the sun for 5 years before i bought it in florida, very faded and peeling.

Just an update, the shop called me notified me of a little problem. The two wheels that they were about to candy the original 2 wheels that came on the car were no like the other 2 wheels, these 2 wheels were not polished aluminum, when they took the stock candy off, they found out that they were chromed, WTF pontiac could you at least use the same wheels on all of the 30th's And not mix and match. The ones they have already candied were as the sticker says"high polished aluminum" but now these two are chromed. WTF....
