Default Opinions on Sumitomo HTR Z II

Ok so im looking for tires for my car (275/40/18) and was almost 100% sure i was going to buy these sumitomos until this morning talking to a friend who told me they have wear issues. Is this true? I understand they're cheap but seemed to get good reviews compared to other, more expensive tire. My second choice, though pricier, will be go back to Nitto 555's. Any help will be great. And if somebody else has an opinion on a different tire please let me know. ANd for you guys who say do a search, i did and still cant come up with a solid answer. Thanks again

Thanks for the help guys. The comments are making me think i'm going to buy them. I only drive the car in the summer and the most water it see is when i wash it so i should be good.

You're going to get a lot of people bitching about wear issues and traction with them, but only because they are talking about the normal HTR Z. Most people don't have problems with HTR Z II, and that's what I plan on getting ordered up today (285/35/18).

How wide are your wheels? I had 285's on my 17's and really like them but that was a 10.5" wheel but my new 18's are 9.5". Would a 285 be to big for it? If not I'd rather go with that size.

No not at all, 285 would look great on a 9.5. I'm ordering 18x10.5 C5 DDs for all corners.

I had a set of 315 HTRZ II's and I LOVED them. Hooked great when hot and still were durable enough for driving in the rain. All around great tire I plan to get another set.

Any reason you want to run a 275/40/18 instead of the more appropriate 275/35/18?

You had the HTR Z, IIs don't come in a 315-

HTR Z-

HTR Z II-

HTR Z III-

A lot of people on here get the Z confused with the II and III for some reason.

We're on our second set of the HTR ZIIs (got almost 40K miles out of the rears), I have them on the front of my MCSS as well. Great tire for the money, IMO.

To be honest, theres no reason at all. This is my first set of 18's and am not real sure what to run. I always thought 275/35 was the right size but when i bought the wheels the recomended tire was 275/40 and thats where that came from. Whats the norm i guess? I am serious though and think im going to get 285's as long as everything will fit ok.

I had a pair. Last 40k miles but the worst grade tire I've ever ran. Road noise sucked and they chopped even after being rotated every 5k miles. I have ran Sumi, Firestone, Kumho and now Nitto 555. Nitto if you have the extra $$$.

They say 9.5-11" rim for the 285s, you won't have a problem with them at all. More meat always looks better too
