Which 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 Street Summer Performance Tires? Nitto or Kumho?
I have about $800 to spend on summer performance street tires -- NOT drag radials or tires that are absolutely horrible in the rain. May be moving to an area that's always warm but has a lot of rain.
If I remember correctly, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's were the top choice and BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2's were always popular on here, but I don't want to spend that kind of money... Also, I couldn't find a 315/35/17 in BFG.
Currently, I have Fikse FM5 rims wrapped with Kumho Ecsta 275/40/17's in front and discontinued Yokohama AVS Sport 315/35/17's in back. Lowered on Sam Strano's and Koni's.
I've skimmed the first three pages of this section and used the search function, but I've not found exactly what I'm seeking yet.
So, I have two questions:
1. What should I get?
2. Where is the cheapest place to get them?
It looks like my choices are limited. I would like to have the same brand on front as in the back.
I see the Kumho Ecsta XS... They appear to be more strip than street, though. I'm somewhat worried about their tread life and performance in the rain. Am I wrong?
I see the Nitto 555 non-R's are also in my price range. They look great. Are the non-R 555's better than the Kumho's? They look cooler, in my opinion.
I see Toyo makes a 315 in my size but seem to be more in line with the price of GY/BFG.
I'm not interested in Sumo's.
Well, any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, all!

i have kumho ecsta 335's on the rear and they pick up every little pebble, you can hear them peppering the inside of the fenderwells......i'd go with nitto's......i had 555R's before the kumho's and they were great on the street, never had a set of regular 555's though....the 555R's were actually better in the rain than these kumho street tires......cheapest place is probably ebay, i've seen some good prices with free shipping on there....you have 5 million posts

Hey, thanks for the advice! If the Nitto 555R's had better wet traction than the Kumho's, then the Nitto's are for me. While I would love to have some seriously sticky street tires, I'll be driving in the rain often. And, I don't want to replace my tires twice a year.
I did check eBay. Searched, "315 35 17," but didn't find what I wanted with a "Buy it Now" option.
Looks like Nitto's are for me!
My post count was set by one of the founders as a joke.
Thanks!

I love them, switched to them from crap-tastic sumitomos. Picked up an inch in width on the contact patch, they look better, and they hook a zillion times better. You'll love them
