275/40-17 Drag Radial, NT05R or Toyo Proxes TQ?
#22
Well I did read quite a few guys say they were getting 6000-8000 miles out of their MT's. I'm still undecided, but I have decided that I do not want to run a 28" in the back. Kinda leaning towards the toyos but I keep reading about the high power guys saying they don't hook. Maybe I will just get another set of street tires and not worry about traction, my Nexen's have about 23,000 miles on them and are about done. They seem to do ok on the street but damn these are the best rain tires I've ever had.
Here is the Toyo proxes tq tread

hey buddy you can run a 315 on your zr-1s, we ran them on our old 94 z28 and they were 17x9s and i think your zr-1s are 9.5 right? there gonna look a little wierd and not wear the best but running 20-24 psi will help with the wearing of the 315 on a 9.5 wide wheel

Just gonna throw out that I LOVE my 315/35/18 Toyo DRs. Street tread life is great, not bad in rain, and have no traction issues. Might be slightly different after my 4.11s though!
I have almost 10k on my Toyos, and still at least 50% tread life. It's made quite a few 1200+ round trips, and it's only seen one small burnout.

my last set of tires were 275/50/17 M&H. LOVE them for traction, got 4k miles outta them. Prior set was the same with less power and had similar results. Set before that was 275/40/17 MT's. similar traction, similar wear, M&H's were much better in the rain. I still wouldnt rec driving in the rain with them, but if you get caught the M&H's will do better than the MT.
i gave up being worried about mileage a long time ago, its shitty but i came to the realization that for me, a few more thousand miles of service wasnt worth it if i was spinning the entire time. as long as a tire does what i for my car im happy. the only drag radial i havent run is the toyo's, M&H's have been my favorite and they have great customer service.
fwiw, im changing wheel setups and my next set of tires will be 325/40/18 M&H's.
and your car will really like 28"s

I drive my car on too many road trips to only get 4k out of a set of tires. I've already put 3500 miles on my car since may. It also rains all the time here so I need something that won't put me in the ditch! Not much street racing action here and the cops are ***** so I might not run a drag radial. Kind of sucks blowing my street tires off in 3rd gear though. Hmmmmmm what to do! It's really looking like the Nitto 555r might be the best option for me.

I've still been running on some used 275/40-17 MT drag radials. They do hook pretty hard from a roll but if it's cooler out they do spin in 1st and 2nd a little. I'm about done driving the car for the year so I'm still undecided on what tires I'm going to run.

in cooler weather you will need to heat any drag radial to get it to hook up well. i have the toyo tq's right now and i'm very pleased with them so far. i think they are better then the nitto's but not as good as the mt's. i don't drive my car in the rain so i can't realy comment on the wet traction, although i don't believe any drag radial was meant for rain. another thing to take in to consideration is suspention. everyone that is giving a comment might not be telling the whole story about why their car is hooking with the tires they are using. just some food for thought. you can see in my sig what i have done to my car and i'm running a 275 tq. hope this helps some.

what do yall think about the TQ's on the highway on road trips and just driving hard on them? Im not really worried about the ware but I am worried about going around a turn at 100 and going off the road.

I saw the other couple threads where you asked the same thing and about the r888, and if you're looking for a tire that'll handle turns better, go with the r888 because it has a stiffer side wall.

Driven on my NT05R's a lot at 780whp. Been to different states and they have been good. Been on the car since 2012 so it's time for a new set. I'll be getting the 345 R888's for the rear since I'm more of a cornering person but they will do well enough for highway pulls.

Thanks man, most people say that they have used them but never say how much power they are putting down or anything about there car to reference it back too is why I brought up this old tread. I appreciate your input and think I'm going to go with the r888 and see how they work.
