Why don't people look into the nt05r as its a better tire... Is almost bet a 275 or 285 nt05r would have the same or more faction as the 315 555r...

The left tires is a BFG 275/40/17.. And the right tire is a Nitto 555R 315/35/17

You can clearly see that the Nittos are narrower than advertised.

Here is a 315 555R compared to a 275 MT.

You can see here a BFG next to a Nitto. Both 315 drag radials on the same 17x11 ZR1 wheel but the Nitto seems almost stretched.

A 315 on a narrow wheel only works with the 555Rs as they run narrower than advertised. I wouldn't put any other 315 on anything less than a 10.5" wheel.

Damn thanks man. You just made me feel so much better about buying these. They are not much bigger than a different brand 275. That's funny people say it's outragous to put these on a 9.5" wheel when they are just slightly bigger than a 275 bfg. And about the same size as a 275 m/t

So are the NT555 ZR's wider than the NT555R's? Is that what I'm reading? Can anyone give the actual dimensions of all the tires that have been mentioned?

The NT05R will be stickier. Life is also lower and they are less rain friendly. The NT05Rs do not come in a 285 either. This isn't a discussion about what tire is stickier. It's about how narrow 555Rs run.

Yes. The NT555 is wider than a 555R. Just take a look on company websites. Compare overall width and tread width between manufactures. On paper they don't seem too far off listed as 275 or 315 but once they're next to each other or mounted up the difference is there.

NT555
P275/40ZR17 98W overall width: 11.02
315/35ZR17 102W overall width: 12.56

555R
P275/40R17 93V overall width:10.91
315/35R17 102V overall width: 12.13

NT05R
P275/40R17 LL overall width: 11.02
P315/35R17 LL overall width: 12.48

ET Street Radials
P275/50R15 overall width: 11.30
P275/40R17 overall width: 11.00

Et Street Radial II
P315/35R17 overall width: 12.70

BFG g-Force T/A Drag Radial
275/40R17 overall width: 11.00
315/35R17 overall width: 12.40

I run Toyo TQs so I'll throw these in here too.

For reference, mathematically speaking:

315/25.4 = 12.402
275/25.4 = 10.826

Anything above or below that is a manufacturer difference. 275 NT-555R's are actually above spec. 315's NT-555R are below.

It's just the 555R's for 17's that seem to run narrow. My 335/30/18's didn't seem to run narrow at all. But, my 275's and 315's that I had on 17's definately did.

I got my Nitto 275's and 315's in. I got the NT555 ZR's, not the drag radials. Here are some comparison pics if anyone still needs them.

My experience is not with the 315 but with 275. Figured I would add anyway. I use to run nitto 555 and I currently have the htrz on stock speed lines and the htrz is narrower than the 555 from what I can remember. It's been a while since I have had the 555 though so I could be wrong. These htrz I have on now are super narrow to me though.
