Default Check my wheel math? (please and thank you)

I picked up a set of CCW Classics recently that came off of a C5 Corvette. Specs are below.

Fronts -
9" width, 10" overall
Front lip - 1.5"
Rear lip - 8.5"
Backspacing - 7.25"
Offset - 57mm

Rears -
10" width, 11" overall
Front lip - 2.5"
Rear lip - 8.5"
Backspacing - 7.75"
Offset - 57mm

What I'm wanting to do is run the current 'Rears' on the front of an f-body, and replace the 'Front' front lips with 3.5" instead and run the current 'Fronts' on the rear of an f-body.

My math says that adding the additional 2" to the lip (making it a 3" functional area) makes the new offset 44mm

228.6mm (9") + 51.8mm (2") = 280.4mm - 184.15mm (7.25" backspacing) = 96.25 (wheel width in front of backspacing) - 51.8mm (front lip) = 44mm offset

Is this correct?

Almost

Backspacing stays the same since the additional width is on the face side of the wheel

Offset is changed +/- by exactly half of the additional width...assuming only one side of the wheel is being modified (adding an inch to the front and back of a wheel and the offset stays the same)

In your case, adding 2" (51mm) affects the offset by half (25.4mm). So 57mm - 25mm = 32mm offset.

An example would be if you had an 8" wide wheel with 0 offset - if you had the inside of the wheel widened 2", you would now have 4" to the outside and 6" to the inside. The wheel centerline is 5". So 6-5=1 or an offset of 25mm

A 11" wide wheel with 32mm would be a super tight fit and would probably rub your quarters even if you ran a narrow tire and rolled the fenders. I have 36mm offset ZR1s and they rub the quarters on hard turns...lemme know if you want pics

Ah that makes sense. Thanks.

That does sound like it would be a pretty tight fit. Is your car a Trans Am? If you could send/link pics that'd be cool. Plans for the next car involve extensive handling modifications and I don't wanna be slamming the tire into the quarters all the time, so I may go with a 3" lip instead of the 3.5"...or not do it at all...

My car is lowered 2" and Im running wide 315 BFG KDs. An adj phb is a must and even if you use the 3" lip, you can still run 315s

That looks great. I dunno, 1/8" further out than that wouldn't be terrible I don't think. I'm planning on either a rod ended adj panhard or a watts link on the new car and Strano springs. I may go with the 3.5" lips...I think it'd look pretty killer...

What are your thoughts? Be 'safe' with the 3" or go with the 3.5's and hope for the best?

Personally, Im the type that likes to push the envelope and worry about the consequences later... that said, since youre using Strano's springs (good choice btw) which arent an extreme drop, I think you'll be fine with the 3.5"
