How Old Is Too Old?

How Old Is Too Old? I'm looking at a set of tires with around 200 miles on them. They are Goodyear Eagle ZR's. The manufacturing date on them is the 33rd week of 1999. Is this too old of a tire to run on my spring/summer/fall DD? My buddy is a tech and said as long as they are not dry rotted it's fine. I worked at a tire shop and would concur, but wanted other opinions.

Seems six years is considered the standard use by date. There is a link in this thread from TireRack also. I know after reading it I need to check a couple sets I have laying around.

In the pics they seem to look OK. I don't see a problem with tunning them. If you do though just keep a close eye on them to be shure that they are not commingle apart. We should all do this anyways even with brand new tires we just bought.
