Pardon my Fikse ignorance, but I thought these were FM5s - not Profil 5s. Can you enlighten me on what the difference is between the two wheels? I had always thought the differentiation was in a recessed lug area on the Profils.

FM5's and Profil 5's are very close in appearance. One easy way to tell them apart is the Profil 5's will clear large brake set ups. What that means is that the actual face of the wheel has an offset that allows for a wider caliper while the FM5's do not. The offset allowing for more brake clearance in turn translates to less of an outer lip. Generally speaking an FM5 is going to have a deeper lip than that of a Profil 5.
Another difference that you can only tell on the older Fikse models (center caps will say "Fikse Forged" while the newer caps just say "Fikse") is that the FM5 is not a true 18" or 19" face. The older FM5's were ALL a 17" face and the outer/inner wheel barrels got taller in order to make the overall diameter an 18"+. Profil 5's as far as I understand were never like that, they have always been a "true to size" face. There is actually a local guy running older FM5's on his Porsche 911 that have the small 17" face with the tall *** wheel barrels that make them into an 18" wheel.
It is very hard to find information on the differences between them but through my research that seems to be the biggest differences. I have read some posts that claim the Profil 5's were made of something else and were a little lighter and stronger. Don't know if that is true or not. Seems to be mostly speculation.
