Backspace/ Offset?

Default Backspace/ Offset?

Help me understand what offset is? I understand backspace, but not offset?

offset is centerline of wheel to mounting pad. so a 9" wheel will have a center line of 4.5". a positive offset puts the mounting pad on the street side of center. higher offset numbers pull the wheel into the wheel well away from center line. A negative offset puts the pad on the brake side of center pushing the wheel out of the wheel well. Zero offset is obviously the same as having the mounting pad in line with the center of the wheel.
