The 18x9.5 wheel needs a 275/35/18 minimum. When the "measured rim width" of a tire is 9.5", then the sidewall of the tire will be even (flush) with the outer lip of the wheel.

huh? The measured rim width is just the size of the rim used to determine the factory specs of the tire. Manufacturer's usually give a range of rim widths in which they recommend. Michelin says their 255 Pilot Super sports can be mounted on rims 8.5-10". The 255 has a section width of 10.2 (sidewall to sidewall) meaning the sidewall will be 0.7" wider than the 9.5" rim.

well per tire company recommendations, the max rim size for a 245/40/18 is a 9.5" wide wheel. just as hoosier's minimum recommended wheel size for the 315/30 im runnin on the back is 10.5". the fronts do have a little bulge, but nothing that is unsafe or looks bad imo.

Curious, why did you decide to go with 245 in the front and not 275?

it does not really matter why he went with what he did.. its his car, so he can do what he chooses.. this argument/topic has been going on for decades. myself and the majority of people just wouldn't go with anything smaller than a 275. my old car had 17x9's and i still went with a 275.. its just an unwritten rule. also, it's just nice to have a bit of rubber to protect the rim.

I can't speak for the man, but prob to negate tramlining issues. Personnally, I think a 275 on the front of a 3600ish lb car is overkill and causes a lot of pulling around. I plan on going with a 255/40 on an 18.9.5 rim in the near future.

I would guess that with Hoosiers on the back the car is purpose built so he was trying to limit the tire on the front a little for drag without having the car look like a big/skinny combo.
