Default Nitto NT05

I bought 275/40/17 Nitto NT05's for the rear of the car. 2000 WS6 Stock w/SLP lid and Magnaflow cat back. I made 8 passes 60' times were as follows. 6:14pm 2.087 (first pass is always slow) 7:04pm 2.038, 7:53pm 2.040, 8:44pm 2.047, 9:03 pm 2.041, 9:41pm 2.033, 9:50pm 2.038, and 10:01pm 2.076 (Spun a little dew was setting in.) I always launch off and idle and I am extremely happy with the tires. Good on the street and good on the strip.....so far.

No offense but why would you think a 2.0 60ft is good for those tires lol? I mean you could achieve that on any street tire to be honest

Yep. They are great street tires. But not track tires.

Wait do you have the Nitto NT05 ? Or Nitto NT05 R's? One is a street tire and the other is a drag Radial. I've gone 1.7's with the r's and a tight conveter.

Just thought it would be helpful to someone who has a stock LS1 not looking to spend $500 on a set of tires that they will have to change at the track every week, that's all. Surely not bragging about the times, Putting a little info out there.

Are you a a4 or 6spd? What tire psi you running? Are they the R's? Honestly if there not the R's you should have went with them. They are fine for summer driving. Id stay away from the rain or if your stuck in a shower avoid the highway and above 60mph. If not just keep it slow

A4. They are not the R's. I drive the car once a week to work and some around town. Work is 66 miles round trip all highway. Cant go to extreme on the tire in case the rain comes in. It's just a street car that I Bracket race in a street class. Not looking to set any records just have some fun with.

If your bracket racing Id go with some drag radials. Ive driven bfg on a daily driver ( summer of course) plaenty in the rain and was fine.

If you're driving that much, the NT555 (regular - not DR) would probably be better.

I have the NT05 and they are pretty soft. I wouldn't expect more than 15-20k miles max out of them.

i am on my 2nd set of NT05's. you wont get more than 20k miles out of a set. They are great tires but they are not ideal for launching down the strip. they are designed with a stiffer sidewall to make corner carvering more stable, so that alone makes them less than ideal for drag racing. For someone looking for a decent tire for summer and rain and the track, i would have gone NT555.

OP: The normal NT05's are street/road race tires. If you're getting a 2.0 out of them, you're doing fine. You could play with air pressures a little bit to see if they will hook better or not.

Next time, get NT05R's if you want a drag tire.

I wonder why people say this? Did someone have a bad experience and everyone goes off of one person?

I have NTO5's on my car and ran through rain before with no issues. Even on the highway. I wasn't screwing around or trying to show off. They're not any more problematic than BFG g-Force KDW's/Sports or any other similar tire I have ever run in the rain.

Consumer Reports gave the NT 05 only a 3 out of 5 for hydroplaning, which is in the iffy range.

I was talking about pure drag radials in my post

KDW's are molded new with 10/32nds of tread depth NT-05's come new with 7+/32nds. No matter how you slice it the NT-05 will hydroplane sooner all other factors held equal. They are probably fine if you take it easy, the margin for error is diminished.

Forget KDWs or Sport, the g-Force Sport COMP-2 supersedes both and is an improvement over both in general and in the rain.

I used the KDW because it was the tire he mentioned, and that he was familiar with its hyroplaning characterisitcs. Strictly a theoretical dicscussion on the differences tread depth and void area have on hyroplane resistance.
