Default HTR Z II V.S. HTR Z III (Sumitomo) For Traction

I had a set of these in 315's on a previous F-body and they were the II's....They did not hook up great at all but I got them because they seemed like they had the more aggressive look...wich they really do to me anywayz....

So I have an 18in wheel and can't decide between the II's or the III's....I like the II's because of the aggresive tread and look, however they only make it as wide as 285 for the 18......the III's offer a 295/30/18 wich I have read hookup a little better as well....I'd like the wider tire but I also like the more aggressive pattern.....anyone have imput? The 295's are only about $30 more...

Tire rack has the pictures on their sight comparing them. Thank you.

If you're looking for traction, neither one of those is gonna get the job done. However if you're just looking for a decent DD tire, they will get the job done.

+1 on this. Sumitomos are garbage for traction DD tire not bad still not that great. Are you looking for a cheap DD tire or a decent performance tire?

I have had both...had the htrz2 in a 275/35/18 and just recently had the htrz3 on my stock wheels in a 275/40/17. The htrz3 definitely gripped better at the track but that may have been due to the fact they had more sidewall since they were on a 17 inch rim. Was able to cut 1.9 60' with them while with the htrz2 usually could only cut a 2.1 or so 60'. I also even drove the III's through snow and rain and they were great. Alot of people on here will tell you the htrz3 suck just because they are sumitomos but honestly i have had alot if different tires over the years and in my opinion were just as good as any of them

The ZIII has a softer compound and will offer more grip versus the ZII.

I'm not 100 percent sure but I think I had the IIIs and I could do rolling burnouts from 50-100. Traction was terrible. Constantly having to roll into throttle to keep it remotely straight. If possible I'd look into something else.
