Default Nitto tires cracking...

Just curious if anyone else has had an issue with their Nitto tires cracking. I had to replace the set if 555's I had on my Trans Am due to cracking. At the time I just thought it was a fluke. I now have a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck that I will also be replacing due to cracking. The tires on my car were over 4 yrs old when I changed them out. The tires on my truck are just over 3 1/2 yrs old. Has anyone else seen this?

I won't run nitto's. That's the only tire I have ever had a blowout with. The whole sidewall disintegrated on me. Tires had never been tracked or under inflated either.

Did they show any signs of cracking?

Mine are 5 years old and are starting to crack. I'm looking into some new tires myself.

I've heard about this more with drag radials than with their regular tires...not good either way.

I'd check the info on the tires for the manufacture date, Your tires might be a lot older than you think.

I had Nitto Drag Radials on my car from at least 2005 until 2012. Car sat outside a lot, and was drivin in cold weather. I had no issues with the tires. NT-05's on the car since last summer. No issues so far.

The references I made above are going by the date of manufacture, not the purchase date.

Nittos tend to crack real easy
especially if the car tends to sit around alot
and stored in cold parts of the country.

I had NT555's for a year on my C5 and they were pretty cracked. They were daily driven though and saw rain, snow, sleet, ice, and pavement that was 100+ degrees some days. 555's are summer tires only if I remember correctly. Can't blame them for cracking I guess. My new Continental ExtremeContact DW's have been awesome though!

My 555rs (245/50/16) are cracking, but they're down to the wear bars so its time for them to go anyways. I ran them unknowingly at 14 lbs daily driving, I was aiming for 17-18 lbs. So that probably didn't help. Switching to a different more radical tire next year

Hmm. I have NT05s I bought earlier this year. They still look good. But he car has been sitting for a while. I'll have to go inspect them again. Makes me wonder if I should go with the MT ET Streets vs the NT05Rs because of that?
