Default I need advice!!!! All big power cats come in!!!!!!

well, here is the deal. my car, is officially a drag radial only car, here is the short run down:

power plant is a Texas Speed 408 lq9, forged guts, and prc 2.5 ls6 heads with a boost cam, s400 turbo, RPM level V t56, running12 psi boost on the conservative side. wheels are TTM 17x11 rear

last night, on my used nitto 555r i was hazing the tires coming into boost at 100 mph... awesome, but not smart or cool and safe. Its time for a new tire. I am poor, and have been saving like crazy for a new set of tires, its been a while, and there are some new players in the tire game.

I have had my eyes on the 345/40/17 Toyo TQs as an upgrade to my nitto 555r (which have served me ok until now, even my MT ET street 26/10.50/16s on stock wheels, are pretty "slip and suicide" type action on cold roads while hot ******* the car.. i really want to get this right on the first shot.

my car will see no more than 1000 miles a year in vegas, so, tire life does not concern me so much.

what do YOU recommend???? I have had my eye on the mega wide new toyo tq's, but i don't want to pick em up, and have them treat me like the bfg gforce radials i had on a set of weld prostars ( i was able to hold a burnout for well over a mile in a strait line if i wanted to, a mega waste on the street.)

remember, im poor, and cant afford a 300 dollar tire. I have read a lot of good reviews using the search, on the Toyos, and a hand full of "they are a good tire for under 500 hp" reviews. I am well into the 750-800 range as it is now, and intend to up the boost as i move forward with my build, so i need a tire thats gonna keep the car safer. I have 12 years seat time in my car, and can handle the slip and slide ****, but id really like to get the car rolling straight again.

PLEASE HELP ME! i need to order something tonight bros!

Toyo or Nitto NT05R are the only options under $200 for a 315 series drag radial (TireRack has the Toyo and Discount Tire the Nitto). Both would hook better than the NT555R... but they may not hook with 800rwhp.

The MT are a little stickier on the street and cost more.

The best option is the M&H Race Masters 325/45-17. But they are $300 tires. They are also 28" tires... which should help with traction as well.

Might be worth it to run a 15x10 out back and 275/60-15 ET Street Radial Pro. It's not really a street tire, but it hooks better than just about any radial. Also 28" and would be fine in Vegas with no rain.

thank you a ton for the response bud, ive been eye baling all tires you mentioned.. i have looked at the M&H tire, and am pretty interested in it as well, just totally forgot to mention that tire in my lineup.

I have been searching and trying like hell to get me another set of 15 inch wheels, even have been trying o trade my like bad *** TTM wheels for some, but have yet to make a deal with some one (when i am not looking for them, i see a billion deals on them in my price range and or trade range), like i said, im poor now a days, and until i get to tattooing in a local studio after my move, im working with a light budget. such is life bud.

I love the idea of tossing a 345 and 325 width tire out back, and the 40 and 45 series side wall looks killer on the pics ive trolled, and are a bit taller than the current nitto equipped, helping in a few ways, so hell yeah im willing to give it a shot.

I have just been running the 555r for ever now, and would like to switch, but get it right on one shot. I have a set of MT ET STREETS on the car right now (the ones that require tubes) just so its on the road, they are 26/10.50/16's (close to the 15s) and even they are not exactly propelling the car forward in a straight line, and the side wall stiffness is making the car almost not drivable, as soon as it comes into full boost in a higher gear, it seems to compress one tire a lot more than the other, lock out the front suspension, and track in one direction pretty rugged. so i have been craving a lower pro tire for street use.

on it fellas, think im gonna hit up the mt's this time, and see how this thing performs. i doubt ill see any real traction in first or second gear at the current power level, but im pretty good at pedalin' this thing down the road. ill jump back on and contribute a small review on what tire i chose and how it did, for others in the same pickle as me. Thanks again for the advice fellas.

I personally would not put anything over a 315 on a 10.5" rim, that is all the TTMs are. I own 6 of them, so I know their width.

Stuffing too wide a tire will not give a bigger contact patch, as it crowns the tire and make the car less stable. Like the guys who put 315s on 9" rims. 335-345 should be on a 12-13" rim.

I personally have the 315 Nitto NTO5Rs on mine for the street. The other possibility would be a Toyo 888R. They are a Road Race tire, but are sticky. I use them on the track and they do hook up at speed, not so much from a dig.

335/35/17 are for 11-12.5" wide wheels. so stretching them .5" to fit a 10.5" wheel is not bad. actually makes the tire a faster grippier tire.

I do agree that NO ONE should put a 315 on a 9.5" wheel

I had the MT ET Streets on my 17" TTM's(part#3745R) making similar power and they did great. The are 295 wide but on the streets or at the track they grip awesome with a little bit of heat. I'd take compound over width any day. On my lowest boost I was cutting 1.6 60" without a sweat dead hooking. I wanted to push them further but ended up selling my wheel setup for some billet specialties beadlock street lites 15". I'm running a similar 295 MT ET thats 27.8" tall. If you are looking for the best tire you can get for a 17" wheel I'd suggest those. Then again, I'm an auto so you being a manual might not make this the best comparison.

Ummm, no.

From the Toyo site. He did state Toyo TQ.

I would agree if he was looking at the MT DR 28" tall. They have very soft sidewalls and more of it, so you can go over a little.

yeah im with you on that one. going cheap on the only thing that sits between me and the road is not smart.

my recommendation would be turn down your boost untill u can afford a nice sticky tire so you dont wrap the thing around a pole. us "Big Power cats" make sure we have a nice sticky tire...no matter what they cost...lol.
