Default wheel spacer size

So when I bought my car I didnt know it had wheel spacers until I did the hh mod on the rear. They look like about 8mm but the lugs only turn a few times so I want to fix that for peace of mind. The previous owner obviously had no problems and I've driven about 1000 miles no issues. I did notice the pass rear wheel well has some wear on the wheel well where the drivers doesn't. I have an adj panhard bar. currently the pass wheel sits in about .5 inch more than the drivers. But I can't really get under to to adjust, and I'm not positive how to actually. I did the bfh mod as best a could but I'm afraid the pass side will still rub inside if I hit a pot hole or something. Do they make smaller spacers than 8mm? Like a 4. I figure that along with the bfh mod I should be good and be able to get more threads on the lugs.

Adj panhard

Should I just put the car on jack stands and jack up the rear axle to put load on it and turn the adjustable piece one way or the other to center the axle?

Before I get ahead of myself this may not be the right way, but with the wheels on I was measuring the distance from the center of the wheel to the string on both sides.... Is that not the way to do it?
