Default How much clearance is needed?

Just took delivery of some OE wheels ZR1 deep dish wheels. I quickly mounted them up, and they look great, but I'm curious: how much clearance do these tires need?

I seem to have about a finger's width of clearance (maybe 1/2") between the inner fender tub and the sidewall.

I'd rather not go to town with a hammer... But if I need too...

Depends on the tire. My MT ET DRs have about a finger width, and I've done the BFH mod. Some tires will move more than others (softer walls, different psi....). Drive it around the block and see if they rub. However there some of those edges are pretty sharp, so best to at least beat those edges down or in a little.

I was concerned about ruining brand new tires... But I was also concerned about the integrity of the body by hammering away at it.

There's only Couple of places that usually need hammering. Area of Well on left (front) side tire and area directly at the top. Depending on tires on how much u need to hammer in. Only way to tell if they will rub is to drive it. Just take it slow and short then check

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll slap all 4 on and take her out...

Fingers are crossed... I'd rather not hammer away at an otherwise clean car.

Typically I have seen that most tires wider that 285 or 295 need BFH depending on if you're stock height or not.

have you seen any issues with a bfh mod? I know it's popular here, but I wasn't sure if there are adverse effects...

I bought the wheels and tires knowing there was a chance I would need to hammer but I have heard of some people getting away without it.

I ended up with 315 nitto 555 in the rear, and I know they run a little narrower than most 315 tires. That being said, I can fit a finger (barely) between the tire and front inner fender.

I'm at stock height but I'm considering my drop options too...
