Default Wheel backspacing with 3rd gen 9"

I have a 99 trans am that I swaped a 9" that came out of a 3rd gen camaro and I want to run 15x10 rear rims.... the rims I'm looking at have a 5.5" backspace... I know on 3rd gens 5.5 backspace is a common 15x10 choice... Since I am running the 3rd gen axle which is 3" narrower from what I've read would I have any trouble running a 28x10.5 tire with that rim????

On paper it looks to me like the tire would stick out .5" on each side more than if I was running a 4th gen axle with a 7.5 backspace 15x10 is that going to cause problems????...

My understanding is that third gen rears are 1-1.5" narrower than fourth gen. So I think you're right that 5.5" bs may stick out more than you would like.

1-1.5" per side?.... Maybe I'm wrong but Ive read that a stock rear is 64.74" and a 3rd gen is 62" hub to hub...

I am worried about the tire rubbing the fender lip when I hit bumps or launch it at the track with that size tire... idk how much room there is for error before I have to start rolling and modifying the fender...

Sorry yes 1-1.5" per side for a total of 2-3" difference.

Stock 4th gen rear is 64.75 w/o the rotors.

It will work with the backspace, you may need a set of offset LCAs depending on actual fitment and tires.
