I know it's been done, me personally I wouldn't risk it. You can get a real drag wheel for not that much more then it would cost for a gto spare. Maybe it's because I'm a little older now but saving a few dollars isn't worth it to me anymore.

gto spares are one of the lightest options for a 17" front runner. you cant get close to a gto front price for any 17" skinny. 15s maybe. a gto spare is probably stonger than most drag wheels anyway beingg that its made of steel.

I got mine for 50 bucks each I got a hell of a deal. No skinnies are that cheap and I was just afraid that they the tire would be to wide for the rim for daily driving. I know it's not ideal but just a thought

I had a set on my g8 I got for $50! Worked perfect as a drag setup.....people always said no way they would use them........I picked up .2 in the 1/8 with those! Never ran the 1/4 cause it's so far away....but a lot of guys run those wheels with the front runner tire on them....

GTO spares with good tires are stronger than 15" prostar skinnies.
Factor in that fitting prostar or equivalent wheels require brake calipers be ground to fit in the wheel, require a spacer, AND most are lug centric. No way in hell the spares are more dangerous with equal tires on both rims. Put some 28" tall tires up front and all favor goes to the donuts.
That being said, the 17x4.5 racestars are my preference for brake clearance, NO SPACERS, hub centric, and they look cool lol
