Default Taller tire question

Hi All,

I'm looking to put a taller tire on the rear wheels of my camaro. I am currently WS6 wheels, 245/45/17 in the front 274/45/17 rear. Stock ride height as well. What are my options for filling in the wheel well some more with taller rubber?

You sure you don't have a 275/40/17 in the rear?

I'm guessing the "274/45/17" was a typo and you meant to say 275/40/17.

That being the case, you can easily go to a 285/40/17 in the rear for a little extra width and a little extra height. It's not much, but when I used to have this size in the rear you could in fact see a small height difference between it and the 275/40s that I had up front. The problem with 285/40 is that there are very limited tire options in this size.

Beyond that, you really can't go any taller while staying at or near the factory width, as nobody makes a 275/45/17, 285/45/17, 275/50/17, or 285/50/17 tire. If you were willing to go with a narrower tire, then you'd have the option of a 245/50/17 or 255/45/17 - both of which are taller than the 275/40 (or 245/45 you have up front) but obviously narrower.

I apologize, that was a typo. if there is only one other choice for a slightly taller tire, then I will hold off. I am looking to upgrade wheels and tires next year.

What are you attempting to achieve, by going "slightly taller"? If it's simply to fill the wheelwell, most people lower the car a little, to achieve the same appearance, without creating computer issues that come with changing tire diameters, especially when changing the tire sizing on only one end of the car.

It was in fact purely asthetic. I do all of my own tuning so the computer aspect doesnt bother me. I'm sure suspension will happen in the next few months. My only concern going a little lower is ground clearance.
