Default Nitto 555s

Nitto NT 555s or Nitto NT 555 G2s? , Tire size is 315 35 17, any real difference between the two? Thread is slightly different. Daily driver.

From what I hear it is a better tire from its last generation. Since it was developed in the 90's the new design has been upgraded with newer technology. Like this article I will post says, its like getting a new computer after owning an old one. It looks like the Dry traction is the biggest accomplishment along with stronger sidewalls and directional tires. Here is some data from the one article.....

NT555 Key Benefits: – compound that offers balance between tread wear and traction – stable cornering due to reinforced tread blocks – wide contact patch

NT555 G2 Key Benefits: – cornering stability due to directional tread pattern – increased wet traction performance – increased braking performance – wide contact patch -

I'm days away from purchasing a set of 275 40 18's for my new 9.5 wide wheels. Here are a few articles about them.

http://www.svtperformance.com/2015/0...tire-nt555-g2/

http://www.steeda.com/blog/2015/09/s...ting-nt555-g2/

Also, here is the webpage for the 555 G2's. http://www.nittotire.com/passenger-t...formance-tire/

Hope all this info helps. I've been researching the heck out of the new tires I wanted and this just seemed to be leaps and bounds the best choice. Good Luck!

Yes , thank for the information, I wasn't aware Nitto had made these newer ones since the originals have been around for so long.

If the new 555 G2's are noticeably better than the original 555's then they are excellent. I have never been disappoint with Nitto 555's as far as a very good all-around performace, DD, street tire on any of my rides. They may not be the best tire in any one given area but IMO they are the best all-around street tire when you factor in every area that applies to a performance street tire that doesn't cost $400 a tire as they do nothing poorly IMHO. Some people complain that they won't hook like a DR but no ****. That argument is about as ignorant as saying that a BFG All-Terrain isn't a good 4x4 street tire because they aren't as good in deep mud as a mud tire you can hear coming down the road from a mile away.

Yeah from what Ive read and what Ive had on my car...the 555 crowd seems to love these. Ive had Good Year GS D3's that I wasnt impressed with this last round. I think these 555 G2's are going to be awesome.

Are your fronts still in good shape? Im just one of those guys that just cant replace 1 or 2 tires...I have to do all 4. I firmly believe that if its going to be driven on the street for the most part, having all 4 match when encountering rain or other elements is very important to the way it drives and handles. Like an AWD car, you cant replace just two and you cant have two different types of tires running. All to their own, but maybe you should at least consider doing all 4 and be done with it if the funds are there for them. Good luck. Keep us posted on how you like them.

The funds are there, the sizes are different though, 275s up front 315s out back, so they tend to wear slightly different.

I wish they would make them in C6Z sizes as I'm planning on adding some of those wheels to my car. IDK Nitto seems to push these tires to cars in the Camaro/Mustang/370Z range and seem not to size them for higher-end performance cars. I think they would be a great option for someone who wants to DD say a Z06 or GTR or something.

I'll put it this way though on my old Terminator I once ran some PZero Rosso's which came factory on cars like Porsche's and Lamborghini's and the Nitto's blow those out the water in most every way. Admittedly the the PZero's I bought did have kind of an old shelf life on them though.

You made an interesting point about which cars these are on. Ive never really heard a lot of Vette guys or high end Exotics using these. I wonder what the reasoning could be? Weight, distribution of weight, extremely crazy acceleration? But I don't think those would matter. Interesting observation JROC.

You would think that they would at least be good enough for a base model Vette. I started driving back in the 90's and when I think back it seems like it took years for the 555's and really Nitto as a brand to become popular with the Fbody/Mustang crowds. All through the late 90's I thought of them as a Honda boy/FWD, or at least import car tires. I don't remember seeing Muscle Car guys running them until maybe the early 2,000's.

I will say this they are good enough for and IMHO the best factory sized street tire for a GEN 2 Lightning so if they are good enough to handle a torquey 4,700 lb truck then a lightweight Vette shouldn't be a problem. I much prefer them to the GY Eagle F1 GS tires that came factory on my Fbody, Terminator, and Lightning.

I always thought the same thing too, that these were for the Import crowd. I think Nitto was developed as an off brand higher performing tire right? Yeah I have no doubts that this tire is going to be a great handling performing tire. Anything will be better than the GY Eagle F1 GSD3's.

You mean GY Eagle G.S.

The GSD3 is an awesome tire. Just expensive as hell.

Yes, I didnt mean to throw the "F1" part in there. I honestly wasn't impressed at all with this tire. But, everyone has a different set up and things run differently for everyone. I just think there is way better rubber out there. The GSD3's are pretty old now and haven't been updated which is surprising.

always preferred a square setup of 315'2 all the way around. Autocrossing puts so much load on the the fronts when pushing that its very easy to overwhelm them. The lateral grip and feel of a A7 is amazing and so far there's nothing like it. all the rest of the stuff will last longer but are more than a few seconds slower on a 40 second course which is an eternity in Solo racing.
