Default Help me pick drag radials

315/35r17 on 405RWHP/395RWTQ

I don't punch it from a dig, but I do after about 2.5k in 1st. No speed shifts, but I do shift fast sometimes.

Probably won't see the track, it I do, it will only be once or twice.

Nitto NT05R - $217
Nitto NT555R - $213
Toyo Proxes TQ - $222

Inputs?

I'm kind of leaning toward the Toyo TQs because they are also made in 345/45r17... and I plan to mini-tub in the not-so-distant future.

Im leaning towards the nitto 555r and toyo TQ.

More towards the 555r because it seems like a better tire for daily driver and safer. But i hate how small the they are. I know other members have raved how well TQ drive and hook.

I also dislike that Nitto are skinnier than other tires.

I just bought nt05r for my Bolton /stalled t/a. They almost dead hooked at the track without even heating them up properly. I only did a 2 sec burnout. On the street at 26-27 cold psi I'm very impressed with them. I believe the 555r runs narrower. Just thought I'd share my experience with them.

Dumb question but haven't found an answer when searching.

I am wanting to switch from Nittos on my Procharged 98 Z28 to the Toyo TQ's but when I see them mounted it appears that they are not a directional tire.

I just can believe that the tire can have traction on one side of the car when the treads faces forward, but then have the same about of traction on the opposite side because the tire is reversed with the tread to the rear. Makes no sense.

Have never seen pics of Toyo's mounted with both tires on the rear with the tread on both tires facing forward. Every pic - the tire tread are opposite.

I can't imagine driving my Z with my Nittos reversed on one side like that.

I asked this question to Toyo, and the reply is that the tread pattern is asymmetrical, even though it looks directional.

I know they aren't what you listed but I'm running Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial IIs and at the track Thursday I spun them over for a second, no burnout, and then ran a 10.80. They hook really well on my car even on the street and handle rain decently.

I don't have any track times yet but the car is H/C/I w/ S60 (4.10). and put down 420 on Pat G's mustang dyno and has a lot of low end TQ. I can still break them loose and burn them down when I want but they will still stick with a decent clutch dump. I have about 400 miles on them and so far the wear looks really minimal. I chose them for their longevity (hopefully) as 95% it's just driven on the streets. Looks like a good choice for a mostly Street driven car.

Edit: I don't drive the TA when it looks like it will rain so I don't have any feedback on wet traction

I've read that MT ET Streets don't last for ****. I really don't want to be spending $500+ on tires along with every oil change.

I guess it depends on how much you drive. If it's a daily driver and you drive a lot then probably. Mine have been on for a year and still have tread but I only drive about 500 miles a month. It's a trade off, sticky tires that hook equals less miles and vice versa. I wanted something that I know would hook my power and they definitely do.

Ran both, NT555R and NT05R. For a daily I would recommend the 555R's.

Those are too close to a slick for me. I need at least some wet traction.

Drag Radials manufactured in mid-August (DOT 3315) are good to buy, right?

I can agree with you on the Mickey Thompsons, they do hook nicely, now I have had mine for a while and made plenty of passes on them. Starting to now have them spin but for the most part they hook very nicely. As for my experience I would go with the Mickey's but it's what you prefer to do with your car.
