Default Tire size change??

Just bought a '98 T/A this weekend and some Corvette replica wheels from someone on my local Craigslist. The tires on these wheels are very small however. I'm not sure what width the wheels are but the fronts are 17 and the rears are 18. The car has stock suspension in it right now but will upgrade as funds permit.

Right now I'm looking at changing to 275/40 17 in the front and 275/40 18 in the rear.

Opinions?

Hard to give an opinion without knowing the width

What measurements are you looking for?

The front 17" wheel is measuring out at about 10.5" overall but I'm not sure if that equates to a 9" wide wheel.

On the rear, I know that 275/35-18 matches the stock height of 275/40-17. I'm just wondering if the stock wheel well can fit 275/40-18 so I can get an extra 1" of tire height.

What size tires are on it now? When I had older c5 wheels I ran a 245/45/17 front and a 285/40/18 rear. The front I wish I went bigger like a 275/40/17 and the rear was perfect as far as looks but I had to hammer the inner fender well and roll the outer lip or it scraped.

Sorry for delayed response on this thread.

-Up front I have a 17x9.5 Corvette Replica wheel with +56 offset.
-Just ordered a pair of 275/40 17 BFG Comp 2 A/S tires yesterday.

-Out back I have the same style Corvette wheel but it's a 18x9.5 with 56 offset.
-BFG makes the same tire I just ordered in 275/35-18 and 275/40-18.
-Will the 275/40-18 fit the Firebird wheel well with this size wheel? I would rather go with the taller tire.

Made a visit to my local Discount Tire to get my tires mounted this morning and ended up finding the 275/40-17 didn't even fit. It was intersecting with my strut up front.

After going through a bunch of decisions, I ended up buying a set of tires for my crappy American Racing 16" wheels. Wasn't happy with how that all turned out but I guess I have a cheap set of all-season Yokohama's for my car now.
