Looks. When it's the smaller size out back, 17 front and 15 back, then it's for traction.

Compared to a 15, no the 18 is not a good street/strip size for traction.

More side wall, more traction.
Less side wall, bigger rims, better handling

Most cars have more room for larger rear tires because they don't turn/steer like the fronts do. Bigger rear tire = more traction

As mentioned above, I don't think there is any inherent performance advantage to this. Some people like the look, but I'm not a fan.

well then....thats another reason I'll do it...cause i do like *******!...lol

also cause im sick of my TTM's so im gonna put them up for sale too...switching back to my ZR's till i get something else.

plus i dont wanna have to buy all new tires so i'll get to keep my current 275's up front and just have to get new rears save a little money!

No performance advantage to having a taller/wider tire? Taller wider = larger contact patch, I hope I didn't waste my money on 325/30/19 tires for the rear of my S10 I would have ran the same size on the front but they would stick out a few inches past the fender!

My post was regarding the OP's original question, here it is again:

This doesn't reference anything about different tire width, or even wheel width, or different sidewall (or overall tire) height; strictly staggered 17/18" wheel diameters, of which I know no inherent performance advantage by itself. Specific tire specs and sizes would be a different conversation, and a different type of "staggering".

A 295 on a 17 would have bit better from a dig.

Ultra low profile does everything worse. Your current size is not bad. I find a 100mm side wall works near the best for handling.

I made room for a 15x15 wheel to fit so if I should feel the need to switch to street/strip mode I can change wheels.
I like the way these look on the truck and compared to the 16x8 wheels that were on it these are a huge improvement. Trucks not done yet, 6.0 LSA supercharger and close ratio 6-speed. Body and paint will come after the driveline is done and tested.

You can't rotate tires with a staggered setup...food for thought on a DD. Keep it a square 17's or square 18's. 18's seem to becoming the new 17's because tire selections for 17's are dwindling and newer cars seem to be getting 18"+ wheels.

Yeah but if your running 9 up front and 11 in the back ... you can't rotate anyways

That's why I said keep it square 17's or square 18's

My thought process does not include different diameters...since I don't drag race or care for looks. I make the car handle and only think in widths.
