2000 SS 17" wheel size?

2000 SS 17" wheel size? I'm looking at different tires, both for track and daily street use. I'm running the Goodyear Eagle 275/40 R17's, so I know I have 17" rims. What I don't know, is how wide they are. Has anyone ever measured the width of the stock 17" SS rims?

Ok, great. I was looking at a couple different Federal tires. One is a 255/50 R17. They recommend a 7-9" rim. That might be a little bit of a stretch, but it should fit. Everyone says they are actually wider than other tires of the same size.
I'm just trying to find a taller tire for daily use. The only other all season tire I found over 26" was a Nitto NT450. The Federal is a lot cheaper and has really good reviews.

285/40/17 will also fit just fine in the rear and add a bit of height without sacrificing any width. Unfortunately though, there are very few tires in that size. More options are available if you move to an 18" wheel.

That's still a 26" tire according to Discount Tire. I don't see how it's the same diameter, when it's a wider tire and the aspect ratio is the same. It *should* be a little taller, but it is advertised at 26".
I would rather not run a narrower tire. I might just get the NT450, even though I know it's gonna spin.

Actually, neither tire is quite 26" but 285/40 is so close it might as well be:
275/40/17 = 25.66" diameter (4.33" sidewall height)
285/40/17 = 25.98" diameter (4.49" sidewall height)
So you pick up about 1/3" additional diameter with the 285/40, plus 10mm (.39") section width.
285/40/17 was the factory rear size for non-Z51 late C4s, but I guess there's not much market for them any longer as the selection is very limited.

Well that makes sense. They probably just round it up. I'm still thinking about the 255/50 Federal tire. It doesn't "sound" like a good idea, but it just might work. We'll see....
